This is gross, but tbh they don't teach ethics to design students either. I remember getting an assignment where one of the items we had to make a sign for was an "Indian Village". I had a conversation with the tutor about this not only being inappropriate but also inaccurate, they didn't get it.

I heard this, I also heard it was bad, and I also had friends who said it was great who cried a lot ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ. Going later in the week, pretty sure regardless it's at a minimum Margot Robbie/10

*FYI this is not tornado weather, that usually comes from the north-east and you can see the clouds forming way off

Also while I'm at it; a similar number of people have been killed in Auckland while at work due to a tornado in the last 30 years, than have been killed by sharks in the entire country in that time frame. For some reason people tend to be more worried about the latter ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

I just saw a post where someone had a tree pruned for free directly into their driveway. Yeah that's a cat 1. Auckland cops a lot of flack for our weather being 'soft' but wind damage is the main way most of the trees in the 'burbs get a trim tbh

I know I'm in the minority, but this Free program is my favourite music cut of the season. Based taste level IMHO. I don't think the choreo went as hard as it did early season, but can't fault it when the jumps were all good today!

Also I was gonna say both his parents were Soviet block figure skaters who then went on to coach in the US - but actually that is true of ALL THREE* of the Men's singles skaters representing the US.

* This is not indicative of a trend, just happened to shake out that way after nationals

โ€ฆ if it's printed on old Polaroid film that would be very very hard to fake in 2026 as any stock of it that is left would be of dubious viability because the developing chemicals go bad in the packet

07.02.2026 17:02 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Analog photographer here - you can actually 'fake' a Polaroid. Would have to expose the image on to the film. I have an old slide printer that does just that, it's also how the Fuji Instax printers work

But...

A guide for Aucklanders keeping watch for yellow-legged hornets:

1. โ€œHmm, is this stripy waspy thing a hornet?โ€ = not a hornet

2. โ€œJESUS EFFING C what the F is that MONSTER, thatโ€™s he biggest wasp Iโ€™ve ever SEEN, NO Jaden KEEP AWAY, shit I think it has yellow legsโ€ = hornet

@krveale.bsky.social the tabs are back as of today, so idk what that was about. Most of the news operations just don't have enough staff to do a good job across the board, the golden age for news has long passed

I noticed today that the news page on the Radio New Zealand website no longer has tabs at the top. So you can't pick "national" stories. You get what you're given.

read online that someone set-up a premium rate phone number where callers get charged $3.99/ min. then they posted flyers in their neighborhood that said "call this number to report illegal aliens," but the number just puts them on hold with music. so far, they've made $17,000

Hi Jeffrey,
No, nothing looming: I'm hunkering down to do the Popper biography, which will require another trip to Europe
(although the bulk of the research travel I did some time ago) but not for quite some time.
You suggested a while back we should work out the details of the money transfer.
Can we go back over things, first? When you asked me how long I would need to write the book on Lolita that's
the top of my wish list, I said a year. You asked me how much money would that take. Being naturally antigrabbity, I said $50K, thinking not that that's a year's salary (you assumed from that that I was maybe still an
associate professor) but that that's the 25% of my salary that the Faculty of Arts pays (the rest comes from the
University center) and that covers my teaching courses (I have a reduced teaching load in any case). You
promptly said that's not enough and counterproposed $75K. But the more I think about it, the more I realize how
much else other than the undergraduate teaching encroaches on my time: the admin (not bad at all for someone at
my level, but still an interference), the supervision of PhD and sometimes other graduate students. To do the
book in a year I'd really need to take a full year of unpaid leave and be free of all university obligations here. So
that's just for you to reflect on; I'm very appreciative of what you've already offered, and that should indeed
allow me to buy out of all my undergraduate teaching.
Anyway, whatever you decide, here are my bank details:
Bank: Bank of New Zealand
Branch: Auckland Store, 80 Queen Street, Auckland 1010

There was a nice interview the President of Finland did with Christiane Amanpour, at the time I was wondering if his golf buddy would be watching. Mentioned in passing that Finland has one of the largest militaries in NATO and they're all trained in Arctic conditions, not once but twice
