YouTube video by NYU MARRON INSTITUTE OF URBAN MANAGEMENT NYU Marron Institute Hosts Nolan Hicks on Momentum Transit Infrastructure Framework

Got the chance to talk to a room full of really smart people about the Transit Cost Project's rail modernization report β€” dubbed Momentum β€” today. The video is up. Watch me talk and then watch me talk with my hands -- www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qe10...

Today we learned Andrew Cuomo is directly coordinating with Donald Trump, even as this President sends masked agents to rip our neighbors off the streets and guts the social services so many New Yorkers rely on.

It’s disqualifying and a betrayal of our city.

It's really wild to see cities with absolutely terrible public transit infrastructure completely run circles around NYC when it comes to parking mandates.

Parking mandates should not exist anywhere, but especially not in NYC!

i think it is hard for some people to really their heads around the reality that kennedy is staunchly anti-vaccine and thinks that people should suffer through disease and that those who die deserved it and that those who survive are a better order of human being

This presentation finally has some specific proposed designs, and they're looking pretty good! There would be physical barriers to prevent intrusion from other vehicles. Bus stops would be consolidated to Atlantic Av, Bergen St, and Park Pl, though I'm not sure what would happen to the Plaza St stop

Every single town on the commuter railroads could be doing this if the state legislature would force them to.

How an NYC Suburb Is Actually Managing to Bring Rents Down New Rochelle embraces development and makes it easy to build, leading to thousands of new apartments.

One commuter town outside New York City, New Rochelle, is slicing through red tape and building thousands of new apartments.

But one commuter town outside New York City is slicing through red tape and building thousands of new apartments.
New Rochelle has completed more than 4,500 new housing units over the past decade.
Another 6,500 units are either in the pipeline or the planning stages for the next several years. Those 11,000 new units would represent a 37% increase in the number of New Rochelle apartments compared with 10 years ago.
About a 40-minute train ride to Midtown Manhattan, this suburb of more than 85,000 remains one of the few places offering relative affordability in the notoriously expensive New York City metro area.
New Rochelle median rents are only 1.6% higher than in 2020, well below the 25% or higher increases in New York City and outer markets like New Jersey's Newark, Hoboken and Jersey City, according to Apartment List.
New Rochelle's median rent actually declined 2% from 2020 to 2023, while median rent nationally was surging at a double-digit rate.

Awesome paper finding huge benefits from relaxing zoning constraints in NYC, even once you account for the big costs of redevelopment

The move by both of NY's commuter railroads to eliminate 10-trip discounts and have tickets only last 4 hours from purchase is not only deeply customer-unfriendly, but would represent a large fare hike on one of the fastest growing segment of riders.

First things first: no further part of the NYC transit system can be automated unless Gov Hochul vetoes the Legislature's bill mandating two-person train operations.

While many cities are building fully automated transit today, this law would lock NY in the past.

Spread the word: the MTA already believes light automated metro is light rail.

Only a short step more for the IBX!

There are no more grade crossings on the entire line, which is part of why they were able to speed it up so much

A map showing the ETA's proposal for the now confirmed All Faiths Cemetery Tunnel on the IBX

Today Hochul and the MTA confirmed that the planned end-to-end runtime of the IBX has been cut a full 10 min (down to 32min), and projected ridership is up 41k to 160k/day.

This is the power of grade separation and the All Faiths tunnel.

Kudos to the Gov and MTA!

Again, its such a dark irony that so many ppl on the left are so thoroughly capitalism brained that they view literally *everything* as consumerism

Yes, you are still expected to pay your fare for this public service even as it deals w climate change bc your fares are part of keeping it functional

The key part of Anne Hidalgo's transformation of Paris is that she just did it. Pedestrian- and transit-friendly street treatments aren't reinventing the wheel. The toolbox exists throughout the world, and you can just start implementing them tomorrow if you have the political desire to.

Fresh research confirming chain-of-address filtering is as powerful in Class A residential as the "flight-to-quality" Class A office phenomenon πŸ‘‡

New housing supply lowers rents the most in *Class C old buildings*, not the rents in other new Class A buildings!

I feel like I need to say for the record: flooding was not a regular problem for New York City when I was growing up. The idea that you'd have multiple "shut the city down" level storms every summer is a new development. Climate change is now
