It was good! One side was sun dried tomato pesto and green olives (delicious and perfect), the other side was grated pecorino, garlic, lemon thyme, rosemary and black pepper - good but I should have used about 3x the amount. My fault for not using a recipe.

Awww yay! I have a small home & not a ton of disposable income so I’m pretty focused on “have nothing in your home that you do not believe to be beautiful or know to be useful” - seemed like a transferrable maxim for thinking about map crap. IMO - look into testing your way into a profitable ecomm revenue stream so you can make use of your following & the goodwill we all have for you :)

lol, everyone likes soft clothing, ND or not. It’s a dog whistle (in a good way). Just say “soft, no tags, no seams” on signs & in site copy for ppl who do care. A range of sizes: onesie - 2X adult. Pay for a beautiful design, limit risk & your time by initial test using POD w drop ship fulfillment.

Don’t tell me all the map lovers wouldn’t be psyched to wear a SOFT NO TAGS 😁shirt advertising their special interest in maps on the front. Parents love buying that stuff for their kids and kids do actually grow out of shirts so you’re not contributing to over-consumerism

We do all have enough t shirts! But people love souvenirs and want to support your business, so you need to figure out what you can offer that people would think is a delightful small useful/charming (or both) impulse purchase. If t shirts are working but you don’t like them, try diff shirts.

then if it works, since you’ve paid for the graphic design, it would be repeatable & scaleable and you could test mugs or coasters or stationary or whatever. Doesn’t have to be a screen print, I just think hand craft could fit your brand. Sellable online too. & more quality control over inventory.

Yeah. I was wondering if you could start with something like a partnership with some RISD students or a professor and have someone do some lovely designs for you for low $ and then get the designs screen printed (or DIY) onto aprons or t shirts or whatever. Just a few at first to see if it sells.

You might not be interested in doing that kind of retail. But it seems to be a route that both indie bookstores and museums use to stay afloat, and from what you’ve said, your store is kind of an in-between of both of those places

If you expanded your inventory to curated map-themed ephemera (apologies if you already have this!) that people do purchase e.g. dish towels, stationary, wrapping paper, magnets, pens, keepsakes (museum gift shoppy stuff), how much ephemera $ would you need on avg/day in order to make enough?

Boston here. I use Pecube slip-on ice spikes, that’s given me a lot of peace of mind & I’m slow anyway. Good time for quick small steps. Layers like everyone else said. Ear protection if it’s windy (IDK why wind in ear holes hurts so much but agony.) Face buff bc cold dry air can trigger asthma.
