Hell, even five years.

I think a huge part of the collective economic misery is also our era’s permanent state of job insecurity regardless of performance/financial health of employer. If i were guaranteed 20 more years at my workplace at even my current salary, I’d feel infinitely better about literally everything.

It’d go with more stuff as a shirt layer imo. More potential outfit combos.

Pie in the sky horseshit, of course, but I do continually wonder where guys like this think their revenue will come from if the middle class has no money to buy anything anymore.

It both drives me crazy that the ‘humanities are useless’ canard that has become common sense, including in the humanities, is based in zero facts AND it proves the power of resonant argument. It arose as an answer to the problem of precarity. Dead wrong, but confidently and consistently presented.

Most people I know only watch a movie now if it has a lot of social media buzz and they feel the need to have an opinion about it.

this is comically evil. brazenly anti-social. just absolute black-pilled nihilism. we will not have a republic, we will not be free, until we regulate these companies to the point where — at a bare minimum — they're too afraid to put stuff like this down on paper.

The only 'hope' to be found here is in its existence, an artistic proof of humanity's self-awareness, our constant fear of what we've wrought, of how much more destruction & suffering we're capable of inflicting on our own existence in the world, of the futures we can still prevent.

I’m sure that’s true. Just curious the frequency with which OP sees this happen anecdotally. As an LPR myself, this shit keeps me up at night.

Are you seeing a lot of LPRs snatched off the street? Is there even a ghost of a pretext or rationale?

(I should probably clarify that I don't think all math teachers are horrible. Quite the opposite. I just wish my experience with them hadn't been so awful)

Reporting back to say the first episode was excellent. @hardin.bsky.social the protagonist works at a Home Depot equivalent and makes up stuff about tools to mess with customers.

The cruelest teachers I had in school in 90s India were math teachers. I'll never forget middle school algebra (we were kids!) when a teacher wrote a lowercase 'a' on the board and banged a kid's head into it for using uppercase alphabets in his work. Math = terror. I dove into the humanities.

Everyday I see iterations like this in every tech product I use. Convinced those companies are still so bloated even in their layoff eras that there are entire teams justifying their 500k salaries by coming up with/reversing stuff like this.

I dream of having enough stability in our culture that anyone who wants to can pursue the arts, but the meaning comes from that pursuit, from translating human experiences through skills acquired over time. Art is labor, but it isn't just some commodity that can be pulped and reconstituted.

Every instance of "AI democratizes the arts, you're classist and ableist and a gatekeeper for trying to stop it" is a slap in the face to the literally centuries of poor, disabled people making art on the margins and a crass lie in service of a machine that strips down and regurgitates dreams

We could fix a lot of things if we agreed as a society that proximity to money is not an measure of merit, and at certain scales, it is in fact a pretty reliable indicator of lack of merit.

FWIW, I picked it up last July at a Lionsgate Limited flash sale linked to by one of the physical media accounts on here. Hopefully another batch will pop up?

As Dan says, more than worth it. One of my favorite recent acquisitions.

I'd only ever seen it on VHS and a subpar DVD so it really felt like the first time I was watching the movie properly.
