"Microsoft is cautiously onboarding Grok 4 following Hitler concerns" is one of these headlines happening a dozen times a day that nobody blinks at which for any science fiction novel, movie, comic book, game etc written at any prior point of history but set in 2025 we'd have said nah too cartoonish

I've yet to come across a custom scripting language of this kind that didn't have this problem. It turns out that designing, building and maintaining a whole programming language while also not neglecting the rest of your product is actually really hard

Yeah... I get that a lot of criticism of the education system is made in extreme bad faith, and people want to be on the other side of that debate, but I'm always just kind of bewildered when people act as if teachers being malicious and/or dangerously incompetent is some kind of made-up problem

the human brain is absolutely incredible at adapting

it deals with the abnormal by rapidly making it normal

no matter how much you tell yourself the Nazi soup isn’t changing you, your brain is churning away in the background normalizing it until it doesn’t bother you as much as it should

If you're going to send me something written by an LLM then save us all time and resources and just send me your prompt instead. I'll value a text that says "Heartfelt condolence message with reference to a list of events" more, because this way I at least actually know what you were thinking

People's inability to separate actual consumer advocacy from nostalgia has held us back so much. This nonsense is the reason we're only now starting to see people talk about ownership of digital media in a way that's marginally more productive than reddit-tier takes about how based DVDs are

I don't know if this makes it better or worse, but that sticker is actually telling you the product is a recipient of the Good Design Award: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_De...

We learned decades ago that the most dangerous thing you can show a non-technical manager is a prototype that *looks* production-ready, and now there's a whole class of tools that lets those exact people generate "working" prototypes on demand

This needs to be shouted from the rooftops for the programmers who somehow still don't get that this is what makes vibe coding such a disaster waiting to happen

I'm sure there are legitimate agencies, but yeah, it's a thing. When I was applying for a US tourist visa last year, IIRC the website specifically warned you about agencies claiming they could increase your chances of approval through nebulous means like "a good relationship with the embassy"

These are the same people who think porn bots will stop DMing and/or following them if they put "no porn" or something in their bio, we're not exactly dealing with the intellectual elite here

It is a dumb word, but I will never stop being mad that people took the first widely-used term for an extremely important concept and immediately reduced it to "anytime anything changes in a way I don't like"

I don't think anyone really *likes* "creator" (or worse, "content creator"), but yeah, it seems like that's the one relatively unambiguous blanket term we have right now

The most annoying version of this is the thing way too many people do where they like, pretend that DoorDash invented the concept of food delivery

One of the main things that always makes this kind of discourse so exhausting is the fact that *so* many people on the internet just have absolutely no idea how anything works

As always, "people used to be fine without" (and its close cousin, "people elsewhere are fine without") only works when you decode "fine" as "the suffering is invisible to me, which must mean it did not/does not exist."

Yeah, it's better than nothing, but I'm not exactly convinced that "we still scraped as much of the web as we could, we just didn't completely ignore robots.txt" clears the bar for an "ethical" dataset

NARRATOR: They did not save any time whatsoever. In fact, they spent as much time as they claimed to have saved. Again.

Synthetic Users vs ChatGPT

Yes, you can run the same questions on ChatGPT, but the results will be very different. We rely on an agentic architecture and therefore what you get is a whole bunch of agents talking to each other in order to fulfil the task at hand. We also use more than just one model and that adds to the diversity we are known for.
