I found the later books in the series much more interesting than the first, especially as someone trying the romantasy genre from a fantasy background rather than a romance one

Me: heat safety is very important especially because I'm on medications that mess with my thermoregulation
Also me: <grad school town> is a bunch of wimps when it comes to being outside in the summer

I'm pretty sure my local HomeGoods was breaking out the Halloween decor before they were getting all the dorm stuff set up for the incoming college students

I think I have become too fixated on weird code errors and mathematical discrepancies between papers and have lost track of my actual dissertation ooops

but it's super cute, which is something that makes me want to use it and like it so we'll keep trying it a little bit longer

and yes there is an element of "I shouldn't let cosmic [my bean] down by using another device" but also if I have a thought about something else, but it doesn't always work

also sometimes I could use a few more minutes of focus to finish up a task and don't want to have to set another timer for it

so, so far, focus friend is extremely cute, but trying it out has reinforced that my phone is the least of my distractions when I'm working on my dissertation (like, it's running on my phone right now as I'm writing these thoughts on my laptop while my code is running on my work-provided desktop)

5 Must-Have Tools to Help You “See” Time
YouTube video by How to ADHD 5 Must-Have Tools to Help You “See” Time

I haven't used any of these personally, but How to ADHD did a video a few weeks ago with a bunch of different time taking gadgets, some of which I was thinking about checking out youtu.be/Vzwyl1E-BKQ?...

That, or you need to borrow a lot more to get to 420, or to 42069, or 69420 (the latter two being milestones one subreddit I was active on in 2020 celebrated hitting while we were on a weekly voice chat)

I just found the dumbest solution and it's literally having two versions of the same string for different uses because my files are named with yyyymmdd but I have to use yyyy-mm-dd to select data within those files

but my main stove hot takes are
- controls should be on the front, not behind the burners where you have to reach over hot things
- stoves should not have microwaves directly above them, they should have lots of space and lots of quality light so you can actually see what your food is doing

I've only ever had electric coil stoves in my life and as I've gotten more into cooking in grad school, I can see some of the heating responsiveness drawbacks of them, but I'm also kinda scared of learning to cook on any different kinda of surface (mostly gas or induction)

the fine line of postdoc proposal writing of highlighting your academic brand (research specialty) without the project being too same-y to what you're doing with your PhD

but also I've been doing star stickers in different colors on my calendar for when I do light and vigorous activities on top of having the watch and workout suggestions because there's just something that hits different about the little foil stars on a calendar

There's definitely apps (watch, phone, and web) that'll do suggestions for various activity types, so looking into what watches/apps pair well with the activities you like to do might be helpful

specifically apple watches I cannot speak to (I have a garmin) but a fitness-minded smart watch was definitely worth it for me. My watch gives me running workout suggestions, which I like for changing up the length and pace of my runs (which also gets me to change up where I run for ADHD novelty)

this post brought to you by me slowly losing my mind over the at least three different ways I've seen different papers calculate the same key quantity

dear scientists: order of operations really really matters when you have both integrals and anomalies involved in the same equation please make sure you're clear about what order you do things in so that your science is replicable (ideally by putting code online but at least be clear in the paper)

Oof yeah fear of medication overuse headaches is why I usually struggle to make myself take my meds, even the ones that don't have that risk, and even if I haven't needed meds for the previous few days. I get so scared of "but what if I need it even more tomorrow?"

15.07.2025 23:32 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Lol this is day three of a long wavelength pain phase for me, just was also a short wavelength peak superimposed on it this afternoon. So the meds brought that pain back down to the still migraine long wavelength. I'll draw it once I'm done walking

when taking your migraine meds promptly actually makes the migraine (mostly) go away and you're glad it worked but also angry at the fact that it works

Do single-serving loaded baked potato kits exist? Because I would like to have one for dinner this week but the only ingredient I know can get in a single serving quantity is the potato

apparently being an adult on a work trip is using a "make your first uber eats order and get a discount" promo code to order bread, milk, cookies, and yogurt to your hotel because you just want something simple after a long day of travel

I haven't seen either since they came out but Solo was in a summer adventure movie slot for its release and I thought it did a really good job at that and now I'm thinking about rewatching it

Years ago on the nerdfighteria discord server one of the (now retired) mods's second child was born during Pizzamas and so said baby became known as "Pizza Jim" (the mod was Jim) to the server community so I support nicknaming nerd babies with pizza portmanteaus
