indie film producer friends: I have a question I’m hitting a wall on!

In light of recent news, it’s a good time to reiterate that hundreds of dollars in reads/submission fees is better used to make a film yourself. There isn’t, and shouldn’t be one avenue to get your script read/made.

Coming out of my feature film pre-production Bluesky hiding to share that I have found a pasta shape Mafalde Corte that is essentially mini pieces of lasagna. I’m not the type of person to withhold knowledge.

Had some blood work done today and PASSING OUT was not something I had intended on doing, but when I was out it was the most rested I’ve felt all week.

I haven’t made it to Sundance, but I’m really hoping it doesn’t move just yet so I can attend it in Park City because all the photos of friends there is intoxicating.

Got an MRI of my shoulder and they gave me the images on a CD to bring to my doctor and frankly this feels archaic and too much responsibility.

The cool thing about being very late on watching Severance is that I only have to wait 5 days for new episodes, unlike you punctual watchers who had to wait almost 3 years.

True: starting 2025 off by getting heavily burned by a film investor.

Also true: Whole Foods discontinuing my favorite frozen pizza.

Also also true: got a hoodie for Christmas that is the most comfortable thing I own.

There’s always a win somewhere.

2024 was remarkably hard - but in that challenge there was massive artistic growth, positive personal change, and an eagerness to make 2025 something truly special. Wishing everyone a happy or “thank fuck this is over” New Year.

Got out of NOSFERATU yesterday and they were changing the hallway posters. I said can I have that and the usher said “just take it I swear to god”

Saw FLOW today. Absolutely stunning film. As a pet owner, and a human being with a pulse, it was a riveting hour and a half.

The process of pay-to-play screenwriting is so infuriating, and is presented in a way that almost seems mandatory. The $ some spend on contests/BL hosting could easily fund several indies - but I suppose that isn’t what every writer wants to do. I try hard not to yuck folks yum in this sense though!

People get that life is busy! You’re totally right though about the biz/relationships part. That wasn’t my exact resolution - but I was trying to untether a bit to being beholden to reaching out to any and everyone. The ultimate goal was to turn one way streets into two way streets.

Free idea: someone write a biopic about Nigel Richards (best scrabble player in the world) in the same tone as that Tetris film/the Weird Al film with Daniel Radcliffe.

My New Year’s resolution at the beginning of 2024 was the polar opposite and it just created a bunch of anxiety for myself, so I too will enter my Glen Powell bag with you.

Sometimes I feel like we are at odds with what to title our screenplays, novels, plays - yet Dav Pilkey is a fucking machine of perfect names. He must share his secrets.

Really loved this. It’s conventional - but my heart rate was going crazy the whole time.

That one action line explaining the streets of NYC is so beautifully done.

Hoping that tomorrow we have a substitute day-job boss and they wheel a TV into the room at the top of the day.
