Dad: you're a kid.
Kid to grandma: you don't have a beard. Are you also a kid?
And some toasted seeds!

08.12.2025 04:08 โ ๐ 50 ๐ 4 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 1Day 8, challenge:
Truthfully, my biggest challenge in academia right now is ableism. It literally keeps me up at night worrying about how I'm going to survive this PHD. Had there just been accommodations, it would have been such a good experience....

Still thinking about the cis researcher, that I gave notes to. Her paper was genuinely painful for me to read, it was so (I believe inadvertently) transphobic. I gave her notes about how to fix that fairly easily. She shrugged it off w "I knew some people would find it hard to read".
Day 7, read:
A really fun thing to do while reading papers, is to find people who wrote papers you love and tell them. I am still looking for Melissa N. Bruce , who wrote one of my favorite Supernatural papers:

Day 6, joy:
Oh, the utter delight of realizing something cool in what you are researching, making a connection or seeing something from a different perspective - that's joy
#ResearchAdvent
It's gonna be for sure!
Thank you!!!!
Day 5, engagement:
This is an odd one for me. I have 26 academic citations to my name, and that fills me with great joy. And I am very fond of some academics I'd like to call friends.
Still, I would haved love writing to be less lonely, to have a more active, a real community.

I randomly started watching a movie named Crush, from 2022, and it's fun! I'm horribly picky, too!
So, naturally, I checked, and there's fan fiction <3
Day 4, Hope:
I hope academia becomes far more inclusive, and a safe, happy place for a truly diverse community. I need it.

I am so glad you found it!
Oh, definitely, there are A LOT of good things!
I just mean I haven't been able to find my place there as a fan for some time.
Fan fiction has changed so much in the past few years, I'm not sure it's for me anymore....

Day 3, appreciation:
One group I REALLY appreciate is people who do peer review well. Who are kind, above all. Who give insightful notes and useful citations, who make my papers so much better, and don't even get credit for it. You know who you are (and I don't!). THANK YOU.
