Revisiting to say I am not saying this will definitely happen just that it is likely if the AI hype cycle runs long enough. It's not that it's guaranteed, just that it is pretty likely unless the bubble pops.

They are very willing to lose money on AI, that's what most AI projects do. Considering how concentrated e-commerce is "all online storefronts" is not that many separate companies. Companies that use LLMs to steer customer behavior will continue to do that. Not sure what the laughable part is.

This is assuming they would require a chatbot as the only means to access a service. In this case "not using the AI" would mean "not shopping on Amazon" or "not using Zillow" and I suspect boycotting wouldn't be particularly widespread or effective.
