Also à propos Clang/gcc : on some code a few years ago, I had a code for which clang gave a much faster executable than gcc. Some years ago, and very code dependent.

"Jet spread harmful chemicals"... Well CO2 is a rather harmful chemical (as are other combustion products) so I wouldn't say this one is clear-cut.
