Escaping the politics of victimhood Politicians like to portray voters as victims and themselves as the rescuers. Breaking this toxic cycle is the route to stronger democracies and empowered citizens.

We’ve got to end the toxic politics where citizens are treated as victims and the politicians as saviours. My new Substack. open.substack.com/pub/peterhym...

Revealed: How the No 10 grid strangles effective communication A government β€˜playlist’ of campaigns could cut through more powerfully than an old-style grid of worthy policy nuggets

Snapshot: Britain 1945, Britain 2025 My favourite passage of any history book is written by David Kynaston in Austerity Britain 1945-51. It is a vivid, rhythmic, pointillist portrait of Britain just after the war.

Thinking a lot about Britishness - here’s a snapshot of Britain in 1945 and 2025 - what have we gained, what have we lost? Would love to hear your views. @rachelsylvester.bsky.social @jonathanfreedland.bsky.social @rafaelbehr.bsky.social @sundersays.bsky.social

thanks a lot - think we need a playbook of campaigns to cut through the noise rather than a β€˜one and done’ mentality of small policy launches.

I care deeply about this from my time as a headteacher. We must go beyond the exam factory model of education and give all students proper career pathways and hope. Without it we will fuel resentment and the rise of populism. My latest Substack. open.substack.com/pub/peterhym...

If the centre left wants to fightback against the populists, then it needs to learn from the way Trump communicates. Because at the moment we are lame and failing to understand the attention economy.
