Great to speak to @torstenbell.bsky.social
about the impact of the Budget on living standards. Decisions on energy bills, rail fares and wages bring welcome relief for our constituents - but there is more to do.

Statement from the Living Standards Coalition on the Budget:
As a Labour government we will only retain power if we address the central crisis of affordability, which is driving up support for populists on the left and right.
This Labour Budget goes further than any other Budget in living memory to bring down bills and address child poverty.
We are strengthening the economy by rejecting austerity or more borrowing and instead making fair and necessary choices.
The scrapping of the two-child benefit cap will immediately lift 450,000 children out of poverty which combined with other Labour measures will be the largest fall in child poverty on record.
More than one million low-paid workers will see the national living wage rise 3% from Β£12.21 to Β£12.70.
This Labour government is cutting energy bills by an average of Β£150 per household rising to Β£300 for those with the greatest need, with this Budget bringing down inflation by 0.4%.
Freezing rail fares will save commuters up to Β£800 per year on some routes.
The Chancellor has kept prescription charges frozen for the second year in a row, despite pressure to increase them.
Building Β£22bn of fiscal headroom will help bring down interest rates, reducing mortgage costs and supporting economic growth as well as better insulating the economic from future shocks and keeping inflation down.
This is all funded by the Chancellor ensuring that those with the broadest shoulders pay their fair share.
Driving down bills β whether for energy, food, housing, transport or childcare β is essential to improving living standards.
Living Standards fell under the last Conservative Government for the first time since the Victorian Era.
Whereas this Labour Government has taken real concrete action to drive down bills over the course of this Parliament.
