I also prefer fully mechanical cameras -- I'm a control freak in that way, and also, when something goes wrong, I know who's to blame.

In my photography, I am attracted to textures, patterns, and overlapping shapes.

Great shot. I really enjoy the photos you can get out of Yashica 's Electro series of cameras. I only wish I was skillful enough to repair the ones that have bricked on me. I got several rolls out of my first one, & only two photos out of my second one. The third one ...we'll see.

I like my vinyl, but that's about it. I don't have the discipline to journal. If I tried to knit, I'd just be making myself ugly Christmas sweaters. Puzzles?? I'd be asleep in quick five minutes. So one outta ten for baby boy here.

My goal is to become skilled at this craft. I made my living as a sedentary creative. Film photography allows me to *move* & create while using beautiful tools. Developing reminds me of etching & trad printmaking. Film scratches all of those itches.

Thus, the very old concept of a place for the penitent -- those seeking to turn their lives around. A penitentiary, it was called.

That's a great link for modifying the lens. Thanks. I don't think in those directions, for whatever reason. think some of my problems occurred in developing -- old chems, wonky timing, etc.

After seeing the nice results @keithdevereux.bsky.social got from his Chaika II half frame camera, I thought I would get mine back out, and let my dog check it out. Maybe it will work better after he's had his fastidious little paw-paws on it.

Wow, these shots are better than anything I've EVER gotten with my Chaika II.

Something in-between. The knot on the left is large and is haunted by the 1970s. Make the suit an obnoxious plaid, and you'd be there. The knot on the right looks sucked into the neck & throws off the flow of the tie. So yes, meet in the middle.

That's true. A friend in his seventies raised his phone in the air last week and said, "I've got my thousand dollar camera right here!" Well, good for him. For what I'm after, I need more (less?) than that.

It's strange to me that when I'm taking cell phone shots, I'm just part of the crowd -- one more person with their phone out. If I have an actual camera with me, there is a lot more to defuse. And no one cares whether the camera is vintage or not -- it's taken as an intrusion.

That reminds me of the Gary Winogrand method of appearing to fumble around with the camera like a dorky old grandpa -- while shooting masterpieces.

I'm looking forward to your results with the Chaika II. Mine, with a 200 ISO Arista Edu roll, lacked crispness / definition. I'm hoping that I can learn from your experiences.

My new knee is a little over six weeks old, & yesterday I gave it a workout. I met with a bird photography class at a local nature preserve & walked the trail for close to two hours. I took my Spotmatic loaded with Fuji 400 & a 205mm zoom. For now, here's a phone snap of the trail.
