Jesus. You think it can’t get any worse, then you read these stories. US citizens and legal residents illegally arrested and held for days. **Native Americans** getting detained and held for days because ICE agents are too stupid/racist to know about tribal IDs.

This guy should sue. And this police state action needs to stop. Totally unAmerican.

It’s a core First Amendment principle. This is utterly lawless behavior, for which there will be no (short-term) consequences.

That he does it so casually, as they are walking away, in front of cameras.

DHS has never gotten much respect in law enforcement and intelligence communities (in the latter it was basically second to last in the pecking order). Now it’s suddenly flush with cash and high priority and I think it’s very much botching the opportunity at every turn.

They really should keep doing this. I live in a red area that is generally pretty affordable, but costs for everything—groceries, household items, healthcare, insurance of all kinds, etc are increasing exponentially and if they lose areas like mine no amount of gerrymandering will help them.

Bluff. And if it’s not, it’s desperation because there is NOTHING stopping him from forcing RIFs anytime he wants. And if it’s true, it’s more important than ever to hold fast because if it worked, they’d start threatening RIFs all the time. I didn’t even want this shutdown but now we can’t blink.

History offers many examples of leaders willing to say this sort of thing becoming leaders willing to order unspeakable things.
