Aw man, I hadn’t even considered what the scene was doing. Been too occupied trying to get the local friend group to agree on something.

I've also come to realize I like games (board, ttrpg, etc) where the possibility exists for a kind of bad, boring, underwhelming session. The possibility of a wide open, surprising, unpredictable narrative space basically requires the possibility of a kinda mid game sometimes. See: all sports.

Or wanting to have a story told to you. I’ve had a ton of conversations with local 5e folks who very much want their GM to tell them a story with their OCs in it. Which of course no hate, but it does run very counter to the style of play we are talking about above.

Ah yeah, it's been a bit since I played some Oregon Trail. Mayhaps you just need a more impactful lever/dial to have travel interact with? For instance in my heartbreaker directly interacts with both "HP", "items", and the amount of rolls available to a character.

If you are still looking for inspo, my heartbreaker (that is very focused on travel) just wrapped edits. I could send a plain text doc. Let me know!

What I’m trying to say is that I think you can make those penalties to travel more impactful. Just plan on play being centered around shorter journeys for your players, or require less of your rolls.

Hmm I might argue that travel can have very large consequences over a fairly short time frame. Oregon Trail can have one of the characters catch a disease and die within a few turns. Oregon Trail obfuscates that risk behind the idea of you only really failing if the entire caravan doesn’t make it.

Pilgrim’s Passages has just received its final edits before reentering layout. This has got me thinking about print again. It’s about time to see if I can sustainably do limited riso runs myself.

Text that reads My wheelchair lift stopped working this evening. It's the thing that lets me get safely in and out of my home. It's also the only way I can get out quickly if there is an emergency. If anyone has any TTRPG design work, writing, sensitivity reading, anything extra that I could help pitch in on, it would help right now. Insurance does not cover these kinds of things.

So I loathe having to do this with everyone else hurting right now but the repairs are going to be costly and I would rather earn if I can.

I’ve already had to pay for parts today but labor is going to be more so if you have any work, I’m real good at that.

A share would be rad as well.

As @robino.bsky.social (who, again, has also done this, beautifully so) predicted, I was indeed planning to draw some Final Fantasy 1 monsters with their limited NES palettes. A lot of great names in this first localization. "EVILMAN" "MADPONY" and "JIMERA" are some of my favorites. #FinalFantasy
