Looking forward to trying it out next week.
I know. I got this very wrong. I posted a reply to that post that links to my apology.
31.07.2025 15:11 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0This is the thread to read about trans-athletes.
31.07.2025 14:55 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0So incredibly disappointed in Akiva for parroting this nonsense.
These are NOT legitimate concerns.
XY chromosomes do not in any way affect androgenic advantage in sports (itโs caused by androgens, hence the name), and there are no non-medically transitioned trans female athletes in womenโs sports
These questions have been closely considered for many years, and the answers proved uncontroversial and socially just - until the radical right saw an opportunity to exploit hatred.
www.assignedmedia.org/breaking-new...
The underlying problem with having a "nuanced opinion on trans athletes" is that the status quo was already the nuanced view (typically a certain period on hormones, usually years post transition, decided on a sport by sport basis BY their awarding bodies), critics don't actually want that.

31.07.2025 05:02 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0SoโฆI got this completely wrong. And between reading more of the original thread I QTโd and conversations with @sobekhotep97.bsky.social and @sithissaves.bsky.social after they called me out, I learned a lot about how wrong I am.
I want to apologize for reposting the original thread.
Youโre right. Iโve learned a few things from reading through more of that thread and some of the conversations Iโve had with @sobekhotep97.bsky.social and @sithissaves.bsky.social after I posted it.
31.07.2025 04:46 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I donโt want a ban. I think trans-athletes should be allowed to compete as long as they have medically transitioned.
As a straight, white cis-het man, I learned a lot from that conversation that I would not have been exposed to in our current environment.
Thatโs fair criticism. And until today, I didnโt know that was how things were handled or that this was a solved problem.
I hate that this is even an issue because people should be allowed to live as they feel fit.
There is a lot of nuance in the trans-athlete discussion that gets overlooked, and I think @akivamcohen.bsky.social covers most of that nuance very well.
Itโs not cut and dry, folks. There is nuance, and you have to factor in the sport, the age of the person, and their medical transitioning status.
I think I would have better results just asking Reddit instead of this โpick your own reality that suits youโ from asking a bunch of different AI models.
YesโฆLLMs are kind of cool. And theyโre great when used properly. But theyโre not really a substitute for doing real research or critical thinking
most of science is learning how to ask meaningful questions in a way that lends themselves to testable solutions.
these things...do not lend themselves to developing that skill
My concern about LLMs is a massive amount of my professional and personal knowledge is transfusion from passive witness of discussion. If you don't know what the questions are, you can't own expertise yourself, you always have to export it.

25.07.2025 13:27 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Being able to extract data from complicated text, communicating through writing or presenting, and even having a basic understanding of accounting and marketing were all things I wouldn't have developed if I had just focused on a pure tech education.

I'm pretty sure most of the tech classes were outdated as I was taking them, and I learned more about tech from building a home lab than my classes.
25.07.2025 13:27 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0This is a great thread. While I technically have a STEM degree (Information Technology), I went to a small Catholic liberal arts college that had more credits dedicated to humanities and business classes than technology.
