I have a book cover! After years of work, "Survival at Treblinka: Geography, Gender, and Social Networks in Jewish Resistance" is available for pre-order. It will ship in March and the official release date is set for April 2026. I can't wait to share this important history and hear from readers!

I’m a professor and I’d be hard pressed to name a single R1 university president. That ought to speak volumes about their collective engagement with our present crises.

You’d have to tell me what the mood is among your UK students, but a really significant proportion of my students are preoccupied with the possibility of a draft. If they’re even mildly online it seems to be a real concern for them.

June 11, 1942: Herbert Baum commits suicide in custody. A resistance fighter against National Socialism and a central figure of the "Herbert Baum Group," which was predominantly composed of Jewish youth. At times, the group included up to 100 young people who engaged in discussion groups, distributed anti-Nazi leaflets, supported Jewish forced laborers, and helped Jews go into hiding to avoid deportation. Following an arson attack on the anti-communist propaganda exhibition "The Soviet Paradise," Baum and about 50 members of the group were arrested. Some were sentenced to death or sent to concentration camps. Baum himself took his own life on June 11, 1942, while in custody. The memorial stone in Berlin's Lustgarten, commemorating the attack by the "Herbert Baum Group," lists 28 victims.

Wow. One of our community members in Charleston was once CEO of the company I’m told.

Interesting. We *did* use warning shots toward approaching vehicles when pin flares, spotlights, etc. had failed to cause a stop. In those cases it was a crew served weapon.
