New paper! We show how diet culture & weight stigma are baked into eating disorder treatment—leading to missed diagnoses in higher-weight people, BMI-based denial of care, thin-centric programs, and clinicians unintentionally reinforcing fear of weight gain.

This year saw almost a 50 percent decrease in funded grants on mental health. This is not okay. There is a literal mental health crisis in our country & instead of funding more work on cures we are cutting the amount of work in half.

Our children will suffer from this.

A reminder that for every dollar invested in NIH research, ~$1.47 was returned.

Investors who aren’t gluttonous pigs would do that deal every day, all day long.

Cutting grants is like someone looting one’s stock portfolio (if privileged enough to have one).

As an eating disorder expert I strongly strongly disagree with this statement.

18 million Americans were food insecure in 2023. And this is even before the snap crisis.

That’s 13.5 percent of Americans

Unacceptable

When one ruler holds too much power — king or dictator — people’s needs often come second.

Bad decisions, corruption, and silence about problems can lead to hunger or even starvation.

Places where leaders are accountable and people can speak up are far less likely to have food insecurity.

Hey. Fat people also deserve food. Fat people using snap benefits deserve to eat guiltfree. Going without will not make them instantly skinny, and in some cases, like those with diabetes, not eating on a set schedule can exacerbate health problems. Being fat does not equal laziness or weak morality.

Mental health is so important for virtually every avenue in life and this includes nutrition. Suffering from mental health disorders will also greatly impact the way one eats. Not supporting this is very upsetting.

Dear Director Bhattacharya: I saw your announcement about the appointment of Dr. Kyle Walsh as Director of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. It is hard for me to express how disappointed and saddened that I am with this turn of events. This has little to do with Dr. Walsh or his qualifications. Instead, my concerns are based on the damage that this appointment, with the complete lack of any reasonable process, does to the NIH and the ability of this agency. which matters so much to the American people. to recruit and retain the best people for the 13 institute and center director positions that are now vacant.

Once again it’s looking like my grant won’t get reviewed next week. It is impossible to do science in this environment.

I am reading a reviewing a grant that is 278 pages long. People who think scientists and universities are getting "easy money" from the #NIH clearly know nothing about science.

The drain this hostile political propaganda is putting on our mental health must not be underestimated. We're constantly bombarded with division & hatred headlines. We're supposed to keep calm & carry on but we're only human & it's so hurtful. We've got to up the kindness & solidarity. No other way.

My family & I are still processing the events of the past 24hrs. There is so much to say; for now I will keep it brief:
