The real issue isn’t left vs right.

It’s not white vs black.

It’s not citizen vs immigrant.

It’s not gay vs straight.

The real issue is that a lot of powerful people have a vested interest — and a lot of money invested — in dividing us, and it’s working.

Political violence is always immoral and always counterproductive for a healthy democracy. It solves nothing. It only leads to further violence and ultimately enables scapegoating of vulnerable communities. Committing acts of violence against those who disagree with us helps no one.

It’s not simply important to denounce political violence because it looks bad not to. It’s the right thing to do on the merits. Even more specifically to this moment it’s important because the forces of fascism are inherently better at political violence than the forces of civic democracy.

I despise Charlie Kirk and every hateful thing he stands for, but today’s shooting was truly horrific. Violence is NEVER the answer.

FYI: Utah is a "shall issue" state where no permit, background check or registration is required for a gun in a private sale.

This is not some kumbaya “go high” shit. It’s me telling you when I’ve had a gun pointed at me—literally, not figuratively—it wasn’t the time to posture. Fascism’s guns are at the ready. Think before you spout off. Winning the struggle against fascism is what matters.

If I have any credibility with you from 20 years of reporting on rightwing & fascist movements, please listen when I beg you not to celebrate Charlie Kirk getting shot. Leave aside morality: this isn’t a match in dry grass, it’s a torch. We do not want what this could ignite & we would not win.

Our constitutions are not the same. We have been very proud of always holding elections, no matter what else was going on. I am so tired of Trump shitting on the United States of America.
