To take in "trillions", tariffs would have to be much higher. 2T$/227B= 881%

And if you spent all of the $227B of tariffs on those $2000 checks, that's only 113.5 million checks. Who will be the lucky ones?

Doing the quick math, that's $227B/$2000=113.5 million people getting the $2000 checks. Of course that assumes we don't use any of the tariffs on absolutely anything else, including what we normally spent tariffs on.

Who are TFG's chosen few?

How do these sorts of things happen to end up in the bill, while for the deal with the Dems, they can't do anything substantial?

They can just negotiate with a couple pro-fascist Democrats to get to yes, and then the rest of Dems can say no.

Other way around: Sen. Kaine took the fall so Warner could vote no.

On a Sunday night when the phones were off the hook.

They should have done this in the daylight, and slower, so they could explain the Kabuki behind why Kaine was taking the fall.

Sounds like the only possible way to fix that is universal health care.

Everybody is watching now. They see who is who.

They aren't going to wait and watch you stand up some doomed bill so that the party that pepper-sprays babies can vote against it.

And did it on a Sunday night instead of during business hours.

My Sen wouldn't even answer the phone while he was making the deal to vote yes.

Yeah right. You shouldn't trust TFG to pay you in full. He's famous for stiffing people in private life. He starves kids with cuts to SNAP and USAID.

0% chance of the promised vote passing.

Voters know who is on the side of ACA and who isn't. And the this doomed promised vote deal puts you on the the isn't side.

10.11.2025 14:19 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

But that promised ACA vote, surely some of the Republicans will vote for it. Right?

0%.

There's 0% chance on that vote passing unless they get something even better out of the deal.

Even if Dems propose something they like, they'd vote no, then re-plagiarize RomneyCare back into VanceCare, add buckets of puppy-heart barbeque for each of themselves, and then vote for that.

Eight Senate Dems Caved, and Caved Too Early - emptywheel With one more week, Trump would have owned far more of the responsibility for SNAP and flight cutbacks.

They could have waited at least until the office was open. My Sen wouldn't even answer the phone.

They also tried to hide it by working it out on a Sunday evening instead of normal working hours.

Another round of TACO Trump vs TACO Schumer?

If it was really the best possible deal, maybe Schumer could have sold it to folks during normal business hours. Sunday evening looks shameful.

Wait, it doesn't actually get the ACA extensions? Just a doomed kabuki vote?

I thought it was getting a temporary extension on them. We held out for one solid, popular change to the shit bill in exchange for cooperation to kick the can down the road to the midterms.

Kabuki isn't enough.

Senate Republicans reject Democrat deal to reopen government The U.S. government shutdown has dragged on for 38 days because of a dispute over whether ACA tax credits should be included in a stop-gap funding bill.

...So, make the deal and open back up.

The GOP still doesn't have a replacement for the ACA, so you should go along with the 75% of everybody wants the ACA subsidies to continue.
