Bro, your work isn't a movie! Also, posters aren't for you to display your brilliant complete story, they're for students and others to present works in progress and have a good venue for discussion
20.02.2026 13:44 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Omfg Jeff, this caught my eye too this morning! This discourse is so dumb every time, and I feel like it's at least 75% faculty who are at heart complaining that posters don't give them enough spotlight. The thread I saw this morning compared their work to a movie and a poster to a crappy trailer...

I do know that refusing a version of how the future will unfold forecloses on the power that actually shapes that future. That’s not disavowing that tech changes are happening but they are in now a given.
Ugh

I've told this story on ContrabandCamp but it's worth sharing for BHM because it's one of the greatest stories ever.
A thread.
From 2019: Jeffrey Epstein liked to describe himself as a “science philanthropist,” and academics liked to take his money.
As more of Epstein’s enablers are uncovered, it’s worth asking why it was so easy for him to infiltrate science in the first place.

Mark Urban, Chris Elphick, and I argue that conservation programs should pay more attention to heritable within population variation, enabling rapid evolutionary response to environmental changes.
For some reason, very few people these days will stand up and say it, but: the US federal bureaucracy is one of the great wonders of the world, staffed with incredibly diligent people who do their jobs well and care deeply.
Trump's destruction of the federal apparaus was a historic crime.
Since 2022, no major legislation responding to or tackling the climate crisis has emerged from the General Assembly. The reason for the slowdown? Aggressive opposition to climate legislation from Rhode Island’s main utility company. buff.ly/byb3VrH
