Today, we report that chronic intermittent fasting impairs beta-cell maturation and function in adolescent mice. Using scRNAseq, we delineated a "maturation score" for beta-cells. Long-term IF good if you're older, might be harmful if you are still developing!

With two complete starter packs (in my profile), here is a 3rd one for the ever-growing metabolism community. Please contact me if you are working (prerequisite) on metabolism and want to be included here; there is still some space. I will keep updating it.

NEW ISSUE! We start 2025 approaching gut-brain crosstalk from a variety of perspectives, including neuroendocrine regulation of gut-brain signaling, interaction between microbiome and circadian rhythms, microbial metabolites associated with gut health and the potential of microbiome-based therapies.

Pantothenate kinase 4 controls skeletal muscle substrate metabolism - Nature Communications Here, Miranda-Cervantes et al. identified pantothenate kinase 4 (PanK4) as a key regulator of muscle metabolism. Deleting PanK4 impairs fatty acid oxidation and glucose uptake, leading to glucose into...

Curious about muscle metabolism? ๐Ÿšดโ€โ™‚๏ธ We reveal PanK4 as a conserved exercise target in muscle! ๐Ÿ’ช PanK4 regulates lipid & glucose use likely via acetyl-CoA. We think PanK4 belongs alongside Akt, mTOR, AMPK, Rac1 & more as a key player in muscle energy homeostasis. #Metabolism #MyoBlue
