FWIW the founders largely did not believe the constitution gave us rights. They believed it affirmed our rights. There was a debate about whether to include a Bill of Rights for just this reason.

People who don’t believe in inalienable human rights do not live up to the founding ideals of the nation. I don’t have to hate them to observe that they do not share a fundamental American belief.

The Declaration of Independence asserts some rights are inalienable. That is, they cannot justly be transferred, revoked or taken away arbitrarily by any governmental authority. You have rights by virtue of being a human being. Anyone who says otherwise is Un-American.

I see grocery/takeout shaming discourse going around again, so this is your periodic historian reminder that cooking from scratch daily while working has never been sustainable, and for millennia everyone either relied on takeout & restaurants or ate in huge households w/ big dorm-like group dining.

When I was little, the U.S. military came to our home at gunpoint and took me and my family away. We were imprisoned for years in barbed wire camps simply because we were Japanese American. I have spent my life telling that story, hoping it would never be repeated.

P.S. Lafayette is structured differently. Give me some time to set the table in that book and it will pay off ;)
