12th cello in my Youth Orchestra, back in my first year with them...

7th double bass is as far as I've gone in that department - that was Saint-Saens 3, in Ripon Cathedral, with Harrogate Symphony Orchestra. That was the first time I've been behind the violas while playing bass. Great fun.

I cannot even begin to imagine being 12th best at anything...

I should be used to this. Android Auto stopped working on the phone several years ago, which made today's schlepping more tedious as I hadn't preloaded enough podcasts for the round trip and couldn't poke the phone when doing *cough* mph on the way home.

I'm going to make some beef stew and dumplings in the slow cooker tomorrow. Definitely winter warmer / rib-sticker food.

In other news, I have had to uninstall two apps as they're no longer supported on my phone - which isn't even ten years old.

@theguardian.com and LinkedIn - shame on you both. OK, I can cope happily without the latter, but to not have the grauniad is a bore. No more khazi crosswords.

Heel end of a baroque bass bow, showing signs of significant repair - as in, two sets of metal rings grafting what appears to be a different main length & tip end of bow to a much darker heel end of bow.

Getting horrible flashbacks to the last time I was loaned a baroque bow to play with. baroque, baroke, broken... ugh. Hateful thing. It quite spoiled the gig (Thomas Arne, "Alfred" - a rare performance of the full opera).
