uhhh this actually reminds me a lot of how LLMs function at a basic level too - predicting tokens based on proximity & context, etc 😬 ...so we're teaching kids to read like AI & saying AI level is good enough

I finally watched Foundation this past week. I hadn’t read the Asimov stories before so the whole world building was incredible to experience.

During second rewatch it struck me that 2020s has a lot about it that feels like the second crisis.

AI has enabled the trend of disciplines being overtaken by technologists and Big Tech, and making actual field specialists and the disciplines themselves a kind of side dish to the "innovation," as is evident in education and healthcare, for eg. A lot of irreparable damage will be done.

Chatbots turned to for companionship A chatbot is a computer program that uses artificial intelligence to simulate human conversation. For the lonely, a chatbot can be a companion, as Meg Oliver reports in tonight's "Eye on America."

Super cool how society just hands off the some of the most vulnerable to the most predatory.

If the concern is to get a job afterwards, I would say that it’s increasingly difficult to get an academic position in Norway. And they’d have to learn the language too.

With the pace of climate change finally hitting many EU countries, there’s a lot that would need to change, and fast. I don’t know if easy is an option anymore.

Definitely, we have to think about effective ventilation and cooling at the same time we retrofit our ceilings for heat capture.

The latter has significantly reduced my electricity consumption during winters. The former shouldn’t cancel that out with new air-conditioning costs.

Yeah. Mine is a concrete building with south west facing windows. I was practically inside an oven for weeks this July.

Lived through this exactly in my Oslo apartment the last two weeks. It’s become quite unbearable without needing air conditioning (even if I’m reluctant to go that far).
