Atlanta is a great hub, but collectively our hubs, think are better. They're bigger cities. We have better international gateways in San Fran, Newark, and Dallas in particular. So I think those are gonna largely balance out. We're gonna wind up with similar margins, but I'd much rather us have 13% margins and Delta have 13 and a half than us have 10 and Delta have nine and a half.

I'm supposed to get hyped about Delta using AI for surveillance pricing but here's what United's CEO said on an earnings call that same week, which is the equivalent of calling Delta's CEO and saying "let's all raise prices":

For comparison purposes, that's the equivalent of what 272,602 federal workers earn in a year.

(i think there’s supposed to be some kind of bundle pricing with the tunnels? but doing sunpass for the tunnels but toll-by-mail for the congestion pricing breaks the bundle? it feels very screw-the-outsider. i guess as a person who lives in Florida, what’s good for the goose, i shouldn’t complain.)

so traveled in and out of brooklyn, briefly crossing lower manhattan, following Apple Maps, and was twice congestion-priced-by-mail. might be good policy, but i gotta say i don’t love the surprise! i don’t know why my FL sunpass didn’t pay, so i’m stuck with a 50% premium for toll-by-mail.

Like, chemotherapy requires doing math to calculate dosages. Your doctor probably uses software that automates this. Can you imagine if the programmer swapped that out for AI. It might be right for months then Sam Altman does something inscrutable and now all your patients are dead

I do notice that when an IPO absolutely flops and eats shit, you don't get venture capitalists and finance professors writing tweets congratulating the bankers for taking all the money off the table.

I feel like this is a very powerful way of explaining the choice we face:

The right wants everything you do to be a gamble, but the House always wins.

We want to guarantee youβ€”and everyoneβ€” the things you need to live a full and decent life: healthcare, housing, education, and care.

The Rot At The Top With Trump firing the BLS commisioner (is that "legal"? I have no idea), I am reminded of the time in 2020, when the stats were a bit weird...

Excellent meditation from Paul Musgrave. Notice the reference to β€œas if describing Versailles from the perspective of the Directory.” We are living through a (counter) revolution, even if none of the most prominent actors are using that language.

Elon Musk is a symbol of American collapse in many ways, but one of the big ones is how for years he has constantly engaged in multi-billion-dollar securities and consumer fraud, and the "consequence" has been him making billions more, including from the federal government paying him directly.

Supply and demand side phenomenon. We stopped investing public resources in education as demand for it soared (roughly by an order of magnitude, maybe two). It’s the same phenomenon as decaying infrastructure or housing.

they don't know what to do because they think winning elections is their job. if they had substantive ideals that they fought for, and winning elections was merely an instrument for achieving those ends, they'd know exactly what to do. they don't even realize this is a problem.
