Ezra Klein has played a fascinating role in entrenching “polarization” as the – deeply flawed – master narrative of our time: His 2020 book “Why We’re Polarized” did a lot to propagate the idea.

But if you read the book carefully, Klein inadvertently provides a good case *against* this diagnosis.

I still remember the camaraderie of the early days of Covid.

For a moment it felt like we were going to put aside rugged individualism & embrace a future that was more community minded.

It felt like disabled people might get a real seat at the table.

That hope being ripped away still hurts.

NPR had a quick, upbeat mention about how farmwork could function as healthcare with people "prescribed" to do it and it feels maddening that a significant swath of elite opinion seems to be trying to soft relaunch serfdom.

At this rate, given the propensity for gun violence from our president's base and the rate at which he is pissing said base off, he better hope the secret service has upped their game substantially in the past year. From what I hear, they haven't.
