He said it was his earliest political memory AND the biggest event of his lifetime. I was responding to the latter.

Not trying to change the subject, but I’m about the same age, and I think the biggest event in my lifetime, by far, was the moon landing. Or are we believing conspiracy theories about that, too?

He should be offering his opinion from jail.

Having tried to make your point myself, it seems to me that some people really don’t seem to get the idea of structural or institutional power, who has it, or that there is a difference between having an opinion and the means to effect it. Good luck, brother

There’s one box she didn’t check, and joined up anyway.

Of course they are.

I think that’s clear

I have a literate person's understanding of "pay" and "2025." And you obviously GAS about something or you'd have shut up and taken your L a long time ago. Learn something from the Jays.

Payroll: "a list of a company's employees and the amount of money they are to be paid." Everything you mentioned is either a) not paid to an individual or b) not paid THIS YEAR, which was the point. The Dodgers are paying less money to their players in 2025 than the Mets. Sorry.

03.11.2025 16:57 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

No, I want to pretend that what people get paid in 2025 is what they get paid in 2025.

I get the point, but as a Dodgers fan watching largely from the outside, it looked pretty good to me to at least be competitive.

Considering only payroll way oversimplifies things. As someone pointed out here, the Dodgers literally needed a role player to win. BTW, when the Dodgers spent 30 years not winning, I was so jealous of the Braves. Even when they didn't win, they were in the hunt.

That's true, but Toronto had the 5th highest payroll. Not exactly the bottom of the barrel, and they could easily have won. I think chirping about money in a rich man's game (ownership) does take something away from the Dodgers. If it were only money, the Jays would have been playing the Mets

02.11.2025 17:42 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

It is not the highest payroll in the history of the game. It is not the highest payroll this year. Don't pull for them if you don't want to. No need to make things up.

I was 27 when they won it in 1988. The next time they won it, I was 59. At no time in that 38 years was annul home attendance less than 2 million, no matter how bad they were. Anyone who says Dodger fans are β€œspoiled and entitled” can kiss my you-know-what

That should be β€œsecond highest.” Wouldn’t want to spout off.

β€œ . . . double of the Blue Jays let alone other small market teams” Other? And again, the tax isn’t payroll. That money is distributed to owners who could presumably spend it on what? And as has been pointed out to you, the fifth highest payroll is obviously competitive with the highest.

I should’ve read your post before I posted!

OK, I will say what I want: 1. There’s no β€œluxury tax” in MLB. It’s β€œrevenue sharing,” which means other teams will get a check, to spend or not on salaries. Many don’t. 2.Toronto is in the top 5 in MLB payroll. Hardly paupers and not half of L.A.’s. 3. Toronto isn’t a β€œsmall market” by any stretch

26.10.2025 04:40 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 3    πŸ“Œ 0

They won twice in 4 years. But man, they had a drought before that. I was 27 when they won in 1988. I was 59 when they next won in 2020. (There was the penny pinching ownership of Fox and McCourt.) But I appreciate your point. If money were the only thing, the Mets would still be playing.

I remember reading that Robert Kennedy (the sane one) predicted a black president. I bet no one predicted a morally and fiscally bankrupted reality-show host.

His mismanagement did kill a million Americans and this country re-elected him anyway. This will be another disaster for us. Having trouble seeing how it could possibly be bad for him.
