Everyone else with kids at home, have your lives also been completely overwhelmed by K-Pop Demon Hunters too? I haven’t seen the kids this immediately obsessed with something in a while. It’s inescapable.

Oh wow, yes that’s very relevant to my interests. Looks really interesting and would be worth it for the Robert Lloyd Parry performance alone. Thanks! I’m definitely gonna see if I can attend.

It’s weird that we all accepted β€œghosting” means vanishing to avoid breaking up with someone, when gothic horror tells us ghosts do the exact opposite!

Sunday house cleaning and listening to the debut album by The New Eves, which to oversimplify sounds like if a bunch of girls who grew up on Summerisle from The Wicker Man started a punk rock band.

This is such a good signing it’s annoying. He fits the team playing style in a way Giroud never did and I think this is will be big for the whole city of LA. He’s gonna be a lot of fun to watch

I haven’t worked out in a couple weeks. This morning decided enough was enough and as I bent over to pick up the kettlebell I immediately pulled something in my back. This was before I even touched said kettlebell. A new low.

Happy Birthday to favorite English horror writer M. R. James, BOTD in 1862. James is like a reuben sandwich, he’s not for everyone, but the people who like him really like him. It’s a lot of academics finding old diaries, or opening boxes that should remain closed. I love it

True but I was trying to think positive. Honestly, going out in the group stage wouldn’t bother me that much.

Rossi and Nagbe are both over 2,000 minutes already. I know they’re undroppable but they’ll need a break at some point.
Rewarding Bush with a tournament start is good.

"Think of this, if we didn't do testing, instead of testing over 40 million people, if we did half the testing we would have half the cases," Trump said at a press conference at the White House. "If we did another, you cut that in half, we would have, yet again, half of that.”

Villager by Tom Cox review – a glorious ramble A paean to people and nature in a fictional moorland village, from prehistory to 2099

The book is about a small English village and the moor that surrounds it (the moor is even an occasional narrator). It roams across the moor and through time finding the threads that connect us to the past and to the land itself. It’s got ghosts, 60s folk music, and dystopias. All you could want.

A chapter in one of my favorite recent novels, Villager by Tom Cox, takes place in a near future where almost everyone wears AR visors. They’re all distracted all the time and hardly able to carry on conversations. An older man who doesn’t wear one is practically invisible.
I think about it a lot.

Grocery store was out of hummus but had tahini? So in a frankly dazzling display of self sufficiency, I just made hummus at home. It turned out great and now my smug satisfaction is off the charts. Tune back in a year from now when I re-remember how easy it is to make.

IBM’s first barcode scanner was called a 3666. Coincidence?! Ray thinks not

Found this tract in a little free library a while back (pretty sure it was there ironically). But lately I’m starting to come around on old Ray Brubaker’s ideas. Not sure barcodes will bring the end times like Ray thought, but pretty sure computers will be involved somehow.

A cloudy orange drink in a martini glass

A cloudy orange drink in a martini glass

Turns out it’s basically a martini with orange juice. Sweet vermouth, dry vermouth, oj, and gin. In 1934 it was the 3rd most popular cocktail in the US.
Frankly it sounds gross, but maybe I should make one since today is William Powell’s birthday.

At the beginning of The Thin Man, William Powell’s character Nick Charles is teaching the bartenders the proper way to make certain cocktails. You shake a manhattan to foxtrot rhythm, a martini to a waltz, and a bronx to a two-step. I’ve seen this movie a dozen times but had no clue what a bronx is.
