We had to leave our Scottish timeshare because the site was held to be uninsured, with both landline and local cell tower out and SSEN unable to guarantee reconnection of the electricity for four days.

Apologies if you've heard this story before. When my working-class mother was introduced to her more middle-class parents-in-law to be, m-i-l tb (trying to be kind) asked her, 'What football team did your father support?'. She answered, puzzled, 'He wasn't really interested in football.' 'What

A very dark bottle of wine - Schola Sarmenti's Diciotto.

A wine-shop-owning friend regularly brought back Diciotto from Italy - a mere 18%. Sadly, he's given up and gone back to being a scientist.

Gotta say--dressing up in costumes is the kind of creatively brilliant resistance we all need. It brings joy and humor to things while vividly painting the authoritarian as foolish and absurd. Hats off Portlanders! @benjaminwittes.lawfaremedia.org I think this counts as the sprite of mischief.

Agree.

Also, as to the final paragraph - Jewish East Enders being arrested in the aftermath of Cable Street.

I'd add this. Although human rights are universal, those who most need the shelter they provide are those without money and power and who are politically targeted. The cost of the Supreme Court's choice to "edit the Human Rights Act out of existence" will be born most heavily by them.

This is a lie.

There are many criticisms you might sensibly and truthfully make of the Sentencing Council and the Sentencing Guidelines. Iโ€™ve been making them for years.

But this is an outright lie. Pure fabrication. A fraud on the public.

I compare this with my childhood experience of taking the train between my home town and Manchester to visit my grandmother. On days when either of the big football teams had a home match (especially if they were playing each other), women and children were routinely ushered into first class.

We counted 61 trees down across the road between us and Pitlochry. Fortunately someone had already got through with a chainsaw and cut a single lane. We were alarmed by what we dubbed the Branch of Damocles - a probably 30 cm diameter branch broken off but caught in another tree directly overhead.

My daughter has had the same since covid - constant, light- and noise-sensitive migraine. She can't currently work (she's a special needs teacher) and GP says she shouldn't drive. GP's analysis is covid but migraine unit at hospital doesn't recognise that as a cause for migraine.
