5/ Video clips are now live on the hospital’s website: fmolhs.org/locations/grea… Full interviews will be added to LSU Libraries’ collection later this year.

We hope this archive helps us reflect, remember & move forward—with more understanding, more care & more truth.

4/ I worked closely with the hospital during the pandemic and still—what I learned through these conversations surprised me. I’m so grateful to everyone who trusted us with their stories.

3/ There were tears. There were laughs. And over and over, I heard: what stood out most was how the community came together. How we, as Louisianans, show up for each other in a disaster.

2/ I partnered with Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center and LSU to collect stories from hospital staff—execs, doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists and more—about how they faced the pandemic.

In July & August 2024, I interviewed 30 hospital staff.

1/ What a labor of love this has been. Two years in the making—and it’s surreal to see it live in the world.

It’s been 5 years since COVID hit our communities. Most of us still haven’t fully processed what we lived through.

ACIP—the external CDC advisory committee for U.S. vaccine policy comprised of pediatricians, scientists, and parents—was set to meet this week, but was delayed. Watch out for misleading narratives about the committee!

Women deserve to know the TRUTH about the impact of Texas' total abortion ban.

Today, I along with Rep. Gerry Connolly, Rep. Summer Lee, and Rep. Ayanna Pressley sent ANOTHER letter calling on
Texas to explain why it won't release maternal mortality data from the past 2 years after Dobbs.

Louisiana forbids public health workers from promoting COVID, flu and mpox shots An NPR investigation found Louisiana health officials told staff to stop promoting vaccines for COVID, flu and mpox, holding flu shot events or otherwise encouraging the public to get those vaccines.

Thank you @rosemarywestwood.bsky.social for the thorough, thoughtful reporting on a devastating, anti-science shift at the La Department of Health. #lalege #lagov

LSU students report barriers to EC and want better access on campus. The student senate last semester urged the SHC to act, yet no steps have been taken. LSU owes its students an explanation—and action.

Nancy Gibbs, writing in Time magazine: "A focus on 'not the threats, but the facts' would adjust press filters so that more attention is paid to what the new Administration actually does, specifically, at what scale, with what effects, rather than dwelling on threats, promises, guesstimates, and speculation. So if, at 11:59 pm before punishing tariffs are slated to go into effect, Trump declares that the border is sealed and drug smuggling ceased, Americans have the right to know if his threats worked. If he claims to have successfully deported two or ten million people, let’s check the accounting."

Former editor in chief of Time magazine, Nancy Gibbs, says "not the odds, but the stakes" should evolve into "not the threats, but the facts."

Publicizing his threats gives him too much power, but ignoring them is no answer. Let fact finding be the guide. time.com/7199622/trum...

Are you still accepting submissions by chance? 🙏🏻 I’m based at LSU - do you already have a chapter on the dismal state of emergency contraception access on many college campuses?

Two tidbits:

-The father suing says his daughters have never tried and have no intention of trying to get contraceptives from a title x clinic, but somehow the case still has standing

-his lawyer is the architect of SB 8–texas' abortion ban

The 5th Circuit grants a Texas father the right to deny his daughter access to birth control, holding that Title X does not override parents' "right to consent to their teenagers’ obtaining contraceptives" under state law. (via @mjsdc.bsky.social) s3.documentcloud.org/documents/24...
