Not sure Trump is honorable enough for or deserved of โMr. President.โ
05.10.2025 19:18 โ ๐ 12 ๐ 4 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 1I do not mean to be pessimistic, but just a quick reality check: you canโt accomplish anything sitting down with a maniac. The Constitution has an answer for this insanity and these abuses of power. Itโs just being completely ignored.
05.10.2025 19:09 โ ๐ 21 ๐ 3 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Mr. President, itโs not spin โ itโs real life for millions of American families. If their health care premiums go up, theyโre going to feel the pain and a lot of them wonโt be able to afford it. Letโs sit down and fix this

05.10.2025 19:44 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0They told me to keep speaking up. So I did. The threats kept coming. (I have an archive of them; people left them on my government phone and sent them to my then-official email.) I've had people threaten to hang me and shoot me; they've threatened to kill my family.

Anyone who thinks I'm arguing over fascism because I feel *comfortable* is just plain stupid.
The reality is that I don't tailor my views on things based on a vote on social media. And I argue, in part, because I fear that much of the opposition to Trump is childish and feckless.

Trump is a fascist threat; I've said it many times. I merely refuse to join many of you in your fever-dream that the United States is now a fascist regime when it's not even a Hungarian or Turkish regime. I want people to be sober-minded and determined, not hysterical and ineffective.

So if you think I'm part of some comfy cis-white-old-rich-carnivore cabal, unfollow me or block me, because you have no idea how many threats I and other Never Trump guys have gotten for years.
And if you want to play Resistance Fighter, put your beret on and go do it on someone else's time. :P

You should put this in the @theatlantic.com, Tom.
This is good stuff!๐
Thanks.
FTR, the very first time I had to call NCIS (I was working for the Navy) and then the FBI because of threats from Trumpers was almost ten years ago. I also had to fight being fired; I told my family, including my young daughter, that I might be unemployed soon.

You can do a search for "sparkling authoritarianism" and see how frequently that joke is being posted.
05.10.2025 19:11 โ ๐ 36 ๐ 3 ๐ฌ 5 ๐ 0Yes, at the top there are a small number of people who aspire to a fascist regime. I've said that many, many times, and put it in writing.
"Significant strides?" No.
We're not ever at the Turkey or Hungary level yet. And saying "we're already there" is just a way of surrendering, imo.
As I wrote three years ago, when democracy fails, it will fail unevenly and mostly, it won't look like you think it will:
