Latvia, together with the other Baltic and Nordic countries, stands firmly alongside Ukraine.

We continue our work on a plan that will help achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, while at the same time strengthening Europe’s security.

While empires are ravaging Ukraine, think about donating to Ukrainians if you can. And consider de-centring these empires from your cultural consumption. There is fantastic music and literature in Ukraine that Russia is trying to destroy. Support it by learning about it. chapterukraine.com

Manas atmiņas ir tādas kādas viņas ir, tur es neko nevaru izdarīt. Subjektīvi, protams. Bet plašāk domājot: kāpēc tāds mākslīgs binārisms "ja 90 gadi grūti, tad padomju laiks labs"? Kā jau te cilvēki rakstīja brīvība bija tā vērta, bet tas automātiski neozīmē, ka bija viegli.

90tie bija tik smagi tieši tāpēc, ka bija jārāpjas ārā no bedres, kur padomju laiki iegrūda. Turklāt Baltijas mešanās neoliberālismā ar galvu pa priekšu objektīvi bija ļoti smaga sabiedrības neaizsargātākajai daļai (man ir diezgan baisas atmiņas no tā laika. 80. gadus, protams, tikpat kā neatceros)

Thousands rally in Vilnius as cultural community warns of democratic backsliding Thousands of people gathered near the Seimas on Friday in one of the largest civic demonstrations in Lithuania this year...

Things have calmed down in Latvia after the parliament backtracked on the Istanbul Convention, but civil society mobilisation led by cultural workers continues strong in Lithuania, raising similar concerns.

It’s a text I wrote for a special issue of a Ukrainian gender studies journal, exploring feminist solidarity. In it, I critically analyse dominant Western and global feminist responses to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, “anti-war” manifestos and contemplations made by Judith Butler and Jasbir Puar

OK.

Diskusija par Stambulas konvenciju izgāja no rāmjiem, secina prezidents Viņš aicināja politiķus vairāk doties pie cilvēkiem un pamācīties sarunu kultūru, kā arī skubināja to darīt "vienam otram karstākam viedokļu līderim".

Vairāk doties pie cilvēkiem ir labs padoms; ceru, ka prezidents @edgarsrinkevics.bsky.social atradīs laiku tikties ar @centrsmarta.bsky.social darbiniecēm, kurām šobrīd internetā un pa telefonu ar seksuālu un cita veida vardarbību draud dažādi “no rāmjiem izgājušie”.

Scholars from Estonia, Czechia, Kazakhstan and Ukraine write nuanced, deeply argued pieces about the war. One of them about Westsplaing. An American scholar jumps in, distorts their views, and explains that their ideas are “American frameworks.” You can't make this stuff up.

Prosecutors in Milan have opened an investigation into Italians who allegedly paid members of the Bosnian Serb army for trips to Sarajevo so that they could kill citizens during the four-year siege of the city in the 1990s.

More than 10,000 people were killed in Sarajevo by constant shelling and sniper fire between 1992 and 1996 in what was the longest siege in modern history, after Bosnia and Herzegovina declared independence from Yugoslavia.
