The governor cites a rise in crime despite New Orleans reporting a massive declines in crime since 2023.
ICE and Kenner Police arrested four undocumented immigrants outside Home Depot Thursday morning.
ICE has not released the identities of the individuals, but authorities say some had prior convictions for DUI and traffic violations.
The Louisiana National Guard federally mobilized 95 troops to help ICE at several locations across the state.
The troopers are helping the immigration enforcement agency with βadministrative, clerical and logistical duties.β
π΄The facility is officially called Camp 57 due to Governor Landry being the 57th governor of Louisiana
π΄Officials have not specified which crimes would constitute staying at Camp 57
π΄Camp 57 was formed after the feds asked Landry for more detention space for ICE arrestees.

On Wednesday, Governor Jeff Landry, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and other Trump officials will announce a new facility at Angola Prison to house the βworst of the worstβ immigrants arrested by ICE.
Angola is a maximum security facility that can house 6,000. It used to be a plantation.
At 19-years-old Marco Jose Hernandez started gutting homes in his own neighborhood in New Orleans East in the months after Hurricane Katrina.
He was one of thousands of Latino workers who rebuilt the city after the storm β most going through discrimination, wage theft and horrific work conditions.
Despite relaxed immigration/labor laws that allowed undocumented workers to help in the rebuild process β 81% of Hispanic workers said their employers treated to deport them while on the job site.

The average pay was just over $16 for documented workers and $10 for undocumented workers.
28% of undocumented workers reported issues getting paid.
Of the tens of thousands of workers who helped in New Orleansβs rebuild the Berkeley Journal of Labor Law estimates 45% were Hispanic.
54% of those Hispanic workers were undocumented from Central and South America.
Other workers came from Florida, Georgia and Texas.
The grueling and nearly impossible task of rebuilding New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina was done mainly by Latino workers β who gutted homes and cleared debris despite horrific conditions, discrimination and wage theft.

Itβs been a week since Paola Clouatre was released from ICE custody in Monroe, Louisiana.
She was arrested moments after her green card hearing in New Orleans back in May.
Her husband had to drive 3 hours from Baton Rouge to have their infant daughter breastfeed.
Looking at 1st Quarter data from ICE New Orleans, agents detained 6,093 people.
Thatβs a 24% increase over the same period last year. ICE New Orleans also saw a 9% detention increase in those with no criminal history.

An NOPD officer is conscious after a hit-and-run on Bourbon and Continues just before midnight on Friday.
NOPD arrested one suspect at the car used the in crime at the Canal Place parking lot.
One suspect is still at large.
ICE New Orleans says it prioritizes arresting criminal immigrants & targeted enforcement.
However, it has not said whether any of the workers during Mondayβs Kenner construction site raid had criminal records.
Immigrants with pending cases have also been detained at check-ins.

In one of the largest ICE raids in Louisiana history, 84 workers at Delta Downs, a horse race track near Lake Charles, were arrested.
Officials say the workers were hired illegally, mostly to tend to the stables.
The race course is also under investigation for illegal hiring.
The city of Kenner canceled this yearβs Hispanic Heritage Festival after growing concerns among the community over increased ICE presence.
Kenner has the largest population of Hispanics in Louisiana with more than 20,000 making up 30% of the cityβs population.
ICE arrested multiple workers at a construction site for a new fire station in Kenner this afternoon.
Kenner Police helped in the raid.
Officials havenβt said who was arrested and how many people were taken.
Neighbors tell me 6 construction workers were detained in an ICE raid at a Kenner construction site on Loyola Drive.
ICE has not verified any details with me just yet.
This comes after the Trump Administration suggested a pause on ICE raids on work sites.
