Hi bluesky! I was wondering whether you know of any papers that discuss how much easier it is to do a replication study with agentic AI (eg Codex/Claude Code). In the absence of code, it seems like that's a great way to test whether the models reported in a paper were the ones that were fit, etc.

Exploring interdisciplinarity โ€“ raising self-awareness through a comprehensive research assessment - MetaROR

For the University of Helsinki's comprehensive research assessment, researchers designed a dedicated module to capture interdisciplinarity.

Reviewers called their approach "inspiring" and did not identify major weaknesses, but do provide recommendations.

AI is not a peer, so it canโ€™t do peer review If we still believe thatย science is a vocationย grounded in argument, curiosity and care, we canโ€™t delegate judgement to machines, saysย Akhil Bhardwaj

'to treat peer review as a throughput problem is to misunderstand what is at stake. Review is not simply a production stage in the research pipeline; it is one of the few remaining spaces where the scientific community talks to itself.' 1/3

The FORRT Replication Database has received a massive overhaul (FReD 2.0): We double-coded and validated all data from scratch and extended it in the course of a one-year-partnership with the @cos.io. We just switched to a faster interface thanks to @lukaswallrich.bsky.socialโ€™s wizardry.

Reproducibility and open science are great, but they don't necessarily equate to rigor. You can perfectly share a study and still draw weak conclusions. True rigor lives in the questions we ask, the designs we choose, and the inferences we make.

LLM use in scholarly writing poses a provenance problem Nature Machine Intelligence - LLM use in scholarly writing poses a provenance problem

Suppose you ask #AI for improvements to your writing.

The #LLM was trained on, but doesnโ€™t mention, Smithโ€™s work.

You adopt the suggestions containing Smithโ€™s ideas.

You donโ€™t even realize YOUโ€™VE PLAGIARIZED because youโ€™ve never read or heard of Smith.

It is not just that 'ideally' criteria for publication should be the same for significant and non-significant results - it is literally in the code of conduct for research integrity. If you do not act in line with this, you are violating the code of conduct for research integrity.

Also: what is the problem with just enjoying thinking and writing? Why would I leave that to AI?
