Looking through old camera images today and i completely forgot about this Scare Chaser seen on the Somerset Levels in late May!

Once 'scarce' in the UK up around 2004, this species is now a common breeder across the levels.

During a recent terrestrial invertebrate survey at Somerset Wildlands Athelney rewilding site it was encouraging to see invertebrates responding well to the developing diversity of vegetation. πŸͺ² πŸ› πŸ•·οΈ πŸ¦‹ The number of Latticed Heath moths was particularly impressive!

After many years of admiration for the plant, i'm delighted to have Viper's-bugloss Echium vulgare now established within the little meadow patch at the back of the garden! A magnet for pollinators πŸπŸ¦‹πŸͺ°

Insects have been enjoying the heat this week! A broad mix recorded during my invert surveys across @somersetwildlands.bsky.social sites around the Somerset Levels. Photos here of some of the more colourful and easier to photograph! πŸπŸœπŸ› @alasdaircameron.bsky.social

Butterflies, moths and people need Wild Spaces 🌼🌳

Urban areas have seen a dramatic 69% decline in the abundance of butterflies in just 20 years. But we can turn things around!

A pleasure to survey and explore the chalk downlands of North Dorset this week. Quaking Grass - Briza media and Kindey Vetch - Anthyllis vulneraria are always at the top of my list of indicator species however.
