Getting old means that you might sit down to take a pee and suddenly you’re in so much pain you can barely stand up again 🤠 My back/ribcage is so fucked that I was sobbing and gasping in pain this AM, while barely able to get out of bed/use the washroom/get dressed to go to the walk-in. No bueno.

I am certainly not a stranger to the feelings of invisibility and profound loneliness during my lowest points in life, but that doesn’t make any of it less difficult to carry. You have to have your own back, I know this, but what a relief it would be to hear “let me help make this lighter for you.”

I went to hear her speak at the University of Winnipeg several years ago, and afterwards I was lucky enough to chat with her for a while about her experiences. She was quite interested in hearing about my experiences in cat rescue, too. Such a passionate and brilliant woman. Rest easy, Jane. ❤️

So sad to hear about this! Jane did incredible work to help us understand our primate cousins, and in doing so helped us better understand our own human nature, too. ❤️

In addition to that the audio for upcoming stop announcements is often turned off. I especially notice this in the mornings, it’s like the drivers don’t want to listen to it because it’s early. But people rely on these things for accessibility!

Something else I learned recently is that buses are supposed to have the recorded announcement that identifies the bus number and route name turned on when they open the doors at all times. This helps visually impaired folks to know which bus has arrived at their stop. Most never do!

If you’re taking a route you aren’t used to, or going somewhere in an unfamiliar area, you’re waiting for the correct stop to be called so you get off where you need to go. It’s wrong so often that I’ve had to backtrack multiple times to get what I actually wanted to go. So frustrating!

Among many issues with the new Winnipeg Transit system, I’ve noticed on multiple occasions now that the name of the stop given on Navigo trip planner will not match the actual name shown on the sign at the stop. Or, it won’t match the screen/what is called out when you’re on the bus itself!

It seems to me that if your whole job is delivering furniture, you should not be loudly shouting and grunting and swearing and complaining the whole time you’re doing it lol. There’s a lot of banging around and “ahh fuck!” going on. Pray for our building’s new washers/dryers 🙏🏻

Also I stupidly ordered a Too Good to Go box yesterday that needs to be picked up by 2pm, which means I’ll have to go outside in this cold rainy weather and get extra chilly! 🥶 🥶 At least the reward is Marchi Doughnuts 🍩
