Whatever discussions take place regarding the use of kerbside space must start from the understanding that public roads and streets do not belong to the people who happen to live there; they are common/public goods and not private assets.

Wow. Very UCD Belfield, and almost an exact contemporary of Andrzej Wejchert's Arts and Admin buildings; not the 1964 competition-winning style, which was much closer to the curtain-walled Science buildings, but what those buildings evolved into by '68-'70 after Wejchert paired up with Andy Devane.

I'm not familiar with the driving culture there but I'd be very concerned to seem them implemented anywhere in Ireland. For me they belong in the 'icing on the cake' category of cycle infrastructure; there are more fundamental things that need to change before they become a realistic design option.

Their success really does depend on quite low traffic volumes, a driving culture that respects cycling and drivers who understand how the lane markings work.

We regularly get requests for allotments, but Taplin's Fields in Bridgefoot Street Park is a community garden only. Many/most allotment hunters don't seem to be interested in joining a CG, preferring to wait +/- 5 years for a personal patch. I'd be happy to discuss with Eoin if it'd be worthwhile.

A map of Dublin City, from the Phoenix Park in the west to Ringsend in the east, and from the Royal Canal in the north to the Grand Canal in the south. The Study Area mentioned is bounded mainly by the Royal and Grand Canals, except in the west and north-west, where the boundary follows the North Circular Road south of Cabra, and the South Circular Road between the River Liffey and Rialto.

This was the study area for DCC's City Centre Transport Plan 2023. I might quibble slightly with the western boundary (James's Hospital, RHK & Heuston Station don't feel like the city centre to me), but it broadly accords with my version of the city centre while the Inner Core Area would be 'town'.

Would bumblebees often mate on the wing? I spotted this pair of Bombus pascuorum (?) in our inner city community garden in Dublin on Saturday, but wasn't fast enough to snap the in-flight shenanigans. They landed high up in a tree and kept at it, and we managed to get some photos. Amazing to see.

The porch seems to have been filled in too, but the fenestration on the east side matches the plan drawing precisely, and the tree line on the east boundary is straight and true. I'm not a betting man, but even I would risk a few quid on this.

I see your description says 'Exact location unknown.' Could it be Lios Muire (see link below)? The corner terraces and chimney placement would match, but the house appears to have been extended to the rear left side. A strong candidate, but not a conclusive match.

I remember people downing their booze at the gate as it couldn't be brought into the site, all the food running out on night 1, missing Colleen, listening to Chequerboard (or maybe Somadrone?) in the upstairs ballroom while I lay flat on the marble fireplace hearth, and the midges! Still, fun times.

Has he played Dublin before? I remember he was on the bill for the first Mór Festival (which became Castlepalooza) in Charleville Castle in Tullamore in 2003, but I didn't get to see him then and I was raging. I wasn't aware he had returned since then.
Really looking forward to seeing him next week.

I don't know if they're finished, because I don't know the extent of the current phase or the overall scheme extent.

I do know that the new surfacing could use a sweep. The material, which was laid over the weekend, is very 'sandy' in places, but it's impossible to see where the loose patches are.

Intact, those doors might make a good greenhouse roof or cold frame for a community garden or an allotment, but that sounds like a logistical headache you might not want (Taplin's Fields in Bridgefoot Street would politely decline- we have nowhere safe to put them and no easy way to transport them).

If you're in DCC they offer a bulky waste collection service. It used to be free (I think) and offered occasionally; I've just noticed that they now charge for it but it's available on demand. €40 for up to 5 items, so it might be worth sharing with your neighbours.
