Happy Monday to all the parents who have spent the weekend dodging questions about the meaning of Wood from their 9 year old all weekend. Never have been so relieved to be sat working on Human Subject Projections documents

The room was packed, panelists were amazing and the attendees asked the best questions.
It was a hard call to not be home for my 9 year old's birthday (took the redeye home). But a packed room waving to her was pretty special ❀️

Arrived back on the east coast after a jam packed 2.5 days in Seattle for #INSAR2025. Many highlights and proud mentor moments. It will be hard to top chairing our "Not autism. Not yet" panel on late and missed diagnosis.

Science feels really hard right now. But my phone is full of amazing scientists and mentors who have stepped up to offer guidance and support. I hope we can all remain in this field long enough to return the favor if ever needed.

Happy to report that APA wrote this letter, gathered a coalition across science, and will now pay for ads for it to be disseminated in Science and Chronicle of Higher Ed to spread the word!! unitedsciencealliance.org

I guess we're in "email your representatives" season. Sigh.
Fun fact - NC was the 3rd largest recipient of NIH funding in 2023 after CA and NY. Sneaking in ahead of PA. NIH funding brings so many jobs to NC and supported $5.34b in economic activity.

New from my rockstar grad student, Mags McAllister, who took SSC data and collated items across measures to create an echolalia "composite." Take home - echolalia is highly prevalent, and varies over the course of development.

(Mags did this all in her 1st year of grad school. She's one to watch!)

As with everything with my career, my grant journey has been unconventional. Started with an R01, then R21, now an R03.

I've had to set limits for myself and mark myself as away when travelling or big deadlines coming up. I also prioritize those I am on the board for, want to be on the board for or have high impact factors. Unless something is super interesting/in my area, I say no a lot!

Thanks for the shout out Ann! Means a lot. This paper started after I read a paper that said anything over 3 was considered late. As someone who works mostly with women and girls, this was mind blowing to me! I am glad this paper is out now (was rejected by two other journals for being too niche)
