Hey y'all, if you aren't aware, Discord announced that starting in March they will automatically set all accounts to a "Teen-by-default" level, and require a face scan or ID for full access. From what I understand from their press release (see screenshot); for our server, the only thing affected would be access to the age-gated spaces like ⁠🔞spicy-zone🥵 or ⁠🔞azel-spicy-art🔞. Unfortunately, I don't think this is a surprising move from Discord, but I also don't think these changes will really interrupt the main usage of this platform for chatting and gaming. It will however, affect your access to adult images on Discord. As a creator of adult artwork, queer person, and general user of the internet, the creep of identity verification and loss of online privacy is a big concern of mine. It is especially concerning given that just months ago, Discord suffered a data breach of customer data and IDs they had previously collected. I would encourage everyone to make smart choices about willingly giving out your private identity information online, for Discord or any website. And I would encourage people everywhere to engage with their governments when they try to pass laws that strengthen the surveillance state and weaken privacy.
