I wrote a book chapter on lying, in which I pointed out that bad liars go small ("Sorry I'm late, I had a family emergency") while really good ones go big ("Sorry I'm late, I was just diagnosed with cancer.") People have a hard time believing somebody would lie about something so huge.

Where I live in Bentonville, AR gets about as close as this sized city can I think, and if you substitute "I just want to able to bike to my daily needs" we're pretty much there. Extensive biking paths and lanes can be a good stopgap, and density can follow

“If you’re a Democrat — even just like a mainstream Democrat — your predisposition might be to help negotiate with Republicans on a funding mechanism,” said Rep. Steve Womack, a senior GOP appropriator. “Why would you do that if you know that whatever you negotiate is going to be subject to the knife pulled out by Russ Vought?”

Two senior Republican appropriators agree it doesn't make any sense for Democrats to agree to a government funding deal unless Trump actually adheres to the deal.

The Democratic alternative CR had language that would address this, but the White House came out strongly against.

im having a harder time with politics than i ever have in my life, including the iraq war and the recession. we're in a full blown fascism explosion and the so-called opposition party has never been weaker. everything we've stood for as americans is being eroded, with a whimper.

Democrats may recoil more from the "just let them die" philosophy but, increasingly, pander to the same monied interests when it comes to public policy.

We are supposed to fight for those most vulnerable.
Instead, Republicans see them as losers to be (at best) mined for their sweat equity and (at worst) abandoned to suffer and die if they cannot be a "productive member of society".

what can you do to fight this fascism? at its most basic level you can circulate good information. the right is excellent at pushing its narrative. the left sucks at it. we too often assume "everybody" has seen a story or some morsel of info already. they prob haven't.
