Hat tip to LNER/CrossCountry for the 20% rise in Thomas Jr's rail fare on Saturdays between Leeds and Birmingham. Albion might be doing their best to keep season tickets affordable but train companies couldn't care less about accessibly priced transport for passengers. #wba

Has anyone other than the Telegraph reported this allotments sell off story? Doesn't sound like the kind of thing Rayner would do.

How can big policy choices be thoroughly reviewed if Government prevent consideration of all available policy levers? Ministers seem unable to act in the public rather than private and Party interests. We need new ways to resolve the direction of policy issues in ways that inspire public confidence.

New β€˜integrated regulator’ should replace Ofwat and drive β€˜fundamental reform’ of the water sector, review finds – business live England and Wales’s water industry requires β€œfundamental reform” to address the problems that have dogged the sector, Independent Water Commission says

What a spectacular cop out from Labour. You don't solve the profligacy and corruption of the water industry with another regulator. A cynic would think ministers have one eye on the gravy train of consultancies and non-execs roles if they don't rock the boat.

The history of the countryside is that it is working land: it has always been the factory of the rural economy. Its historical purpose is not to look nice, that’s just a nice byproduct. Build the damn wind farms. (Happily, they don’t even ruin the visuals, imo. I like to see land at work.)

Jim Callaghan & Denis Healey would have had their hands full putting out statements about the outbursts of punk rockers c.1976-7. But, you know, they weren't knobheads.
