There is an active sky writer over Ypsilanti, and he/she is decorating the sky with hearts and smiley faces. Delivering smiles. #reasonstolookathesky #annarbor

I get your point, but if we used β€œspace per person moving” as a metric, then handicap accessible features would get a lot less area. Also, there are plenty of days, times and seasons when one could take this photo and nobody would be on the sidewalks. We should still have sidewalks.

I don’t think the glove and bat touch here. It’s just the angle that makes it appear that way.

And because they never have to walk in the street at peak traffic times, they don’t see the need for sidewalks. Baahhh!!’

Really hard for younger folks to afford a house on a nice street, and once you can, 1994’s Prop A means we newbies pay the most in property taxes.

Retirees can also choose to avoid walking on our block at 8:00am and 3:15pm, the two times of day when we have peak vehicle and kids walking traffic.

This engagement issue is also about housing affordability. Our stretch of Brockman is mostly childless retirees. Only 3 families with kids, and only mine has school-age kids. Two of three of the families with kids have a doctor parent, and the third has a UM professor parent. Need $$ to live here.

It was nice to have the meeting at Mallett’s Creek Library. My six year old entertained himself for an hour in the kids’ area. Better than City Hall. But, yes, only one of my wife or I could attend due to kids’ activities. And the engagement process does favor retirees b/c they have more free time.

Are the UAW pension and healthcare trusts only in cash?

I could forward you the email from City staff to the Ypsi-Arbor Little League president requesting that teams not practice at Buhr Park without a permit. It’s still off limits this spring.

Like you said, the fields aren’t even that nice. Let kids use them.

Yes, the City requests that any baseball/softball practice on a City field be accompanied with a permit issued by AA Rec and Ed. I refuse to pay the fee for tee ball practice at Buhr Park, Esch, Frisinger, etc. But the City wants any β€œorganized events” to have permits. I do pay for Vets/Bicenten.

I was running a baseball practice at West Park in 2023. I paid the $38 field fee, but a dog owner still turned his dog loose in the outfield to play fetch during practice. I mentioned my reservation and the distraction to the kids. He responded, β€œThere’s plenty of space. I’m not hurting anything.”

That was me. I wish I had placed more emphasis that you baseball/softball teams have to $38 to use a field for two hours. Do dog owners have to pay to use the dog parks? I hope not, but we should reevaluate the costs and hurdles for baseball/softball teams to use fields.

Would it even be illegal for him to accept a billion dollar bribe from a Russian oligarch?

One of my favorite quotes from the 2016 primaries was when Michael Bloomberg was asked if it was really good for America to have two billionaires running for president.

His response: β€œWho’s the other one?”

I know. The situations aren’t the same. It’s just frustrating that people who are getting traffic calming don’t want it, and those who want it can’t get it.

We’re trying to get our street narrowed for traffic calming (not to mention environmental benefits of less pavement), but no luck so far. We’ll accept those resources over here!
