Downtown 1985 was like six blocks of Nicollet, and some stretches of Hennepin. Washington Ave was mostly parking lots. North Loop? Mostly warehouses and old factories. Many abandoned.

I live in Uptown. It has great bones, density, and very walkable. Contains features not found elsewhere. It's been de-colonized from the corporate national chains and new local stuff emerging with some good new energy. New jazz club opening at Henn/28th soon.

My office used to be on 1st Ave. I have seen a few dumb ass maneuvers during the construction. Soon there will be many bike commuters on that stretch!

Recent convo with an Italian friend was explaining that back home there are all these small 10-12 seat places with simple menus serving authentic tasty meals similar to what the old Modern Cafe in NE did, which was his fav place here.

Not every restaurant concept succeeds. Some ideas are just overly ambitious and egocentric.
