And Trump has had a lifetime’s practice in coercion with dollars. Not paying amounts due; not paying taxes; not paying as punishment. Paying to get draft deferments; paying women; paying for escalator and rally audiences; paying for votes.

Taken together with impoundments, this would break everything. The president is claiming the power to not spend money he doesn't want to and now also to spend money where it's not allowed. And SCOTUS might say no one has standing to stop him. That would make him an appropriations king.

And then Trump goes and suggests that rich private donors could fund military pay. Which is exactly how the Romans lost their Republic.

What's more American than rebelling and protesting against tyrannical kings who do not represent the people of this land?
