Rewatched and in fairness England were pretty poor. Didn’t notice on first watch but some of the defence by Furlong was amazing. We’ve definitely missed him.

Worst reffed game ever.

Surprised that wasn’t spotted

Yeah. Timoney also excellent when he came on. Really like him as a player and great to see competition for that 7 jersey.

Really happy for JVDF. Was excellent until he was subbed

Ireland (finally) played to there strengths. Kept ball in hand and went through phases. Felt like we were kicking for kicking sake over the last season so glad to see them revert to what they are good at.

They’ll have to wait at least three years once jack declares for Ireland.

Looked like the ref was out of position

Not sure why he’s gone to the bench so early

Think I’d rather see what Timoney can do. Having real depth at 7 is badly needed for next year.

Not the type of players we like to come up against but as you say, shut them down & it really limits their options. Interesting to see if JVDF is dropped again. Might be a game for him, esp with a point to prove. Don’t personally like Doris at 7, aside from having your best players on the pitch.

Just noticed Underhill is not starting. We’ve never done well against him so probably a good thing. I’d have him as normally one of the first names on the sheet but can understand him going for pace against a tired looking Ireland. Wonder will we match them.

I can see the game getting away from us but as usual I’m more worried about the reaction afterwards than any loss (given the current injury profile). Be good to see the scrum tidied up, new lads making an impression and others showing us what they can do in attack.

Prob a better selection vs Ire but also not something to be afraid of. Said it many times, Eng have amazing depth but don’t believe they have a world class 23 (Feyi-Waboso is a big loss). Unfortunately Ire’s WC players look jaded & if Eng bring half the intensity of last year we’ll be in trouble.

You don’t get starting 10 at Leinster without the same. Sam’s 23, but even still, comparing him to a 33 year out half who was given every chance to prove his brilliance actually makes the opposite point. No doubt Sam needs a break but we also need to give both 10’s a chance to make mistakes & grow.

If you’re going to compare Prendergast to Russell then talk about the Russell prior to him hitting his β€œceiling” of the past 2 seasons. Probably one of the most frustrating player to watch prior to this but both Scotland & other teams stuck with him understanding his genius when it was on show.

He’s been excellent. On second watch Osbourne, Lowe and Conan also excellent. JPG was the kingmaker off the bench though.

I’m not sure Sheehan should be starting.

Love his insights and passion but think it’s fair to say he has a bit of media training to do πŸ˜‚

It showed up the risk of the kick chase game-plan. Wonderful when it works but Eng got nothing from it tonight.

Fair play to him for making a tough call.

Ssshhhh. We don’t do explosive centres!

Would love Osbourne to get a shot at 13 but man are we running out of time

No harm in admitting we are a team
that thrives on consistency. We’ve been unlucky (lucky in the past) this past year with injuries & not had it. Unfortunately (Lions!) we are a year behind but hopefully some
of these new players can bed in quick (still think we need best players back and on form)

Was thinking the same. Have regular nightmares about it!

Irelands scrum is a mystery (albeit missing players have a massive impact) and it will be interesting to see who starts next week but I really don’t rate the England scrum. Think it’s their athleticism that will really trouble us.

Italy likely to get England in second round of WC. Wouldn’t like to be England tbh. Italy more than able of causing an upset.

Do you rate the England scrum? Don’t think it’s one of their strong points.

It’s why Ireland miss their big game players so much.
