One of the biggest highlights for me because the one thing missing in his game has been an ability to impose himself physically on the opposition. He's big enough but that's the first time I've seen him physically dominate someone like that. Huge moment for him.

A little like Baird when he first arrived on the scene.

He was fortunate not to get pinged a couple of times for not releasing the ball after he was tackled. I did think that he was one of their more effective operators in open play though.

Haven't watched again yet but I was left with the impression that they were uncharacteristically fragile and unsure of themselves after they somehow failed to score in the first 20 mins.

I imagine that the number of minutes is just too small but a better comparison would be their minutes since Sam made his debut.

That is grim

Wasn't the original idea from the library dems supposed to be for a graduate tax but watered down by the conservatives to a complicated mess to prevent the situation where high earners paid back more than they borrowed?

It varies. There's no doubt that it helps some programmers - some quite significantly but I'm not aware of any AI that currently helps with window cleaning (it's possible to conceive of ways in which it could but questionable as to whether it would ever be worth it).

Education is a political fault line and there's a very real likelihood that that fault line will only become more prominent. It might be the most important political theme of the next 30-40 years. It's interesting to look at who and what groups are pro/anti-education.

For the most part AI as it exists now is a very long way from being able to replace most white collar jobs but they can enable increased productivity which has been a bugbear of the UK economy for over a decade now. The key to unlocking this is education.

We couldn't really do that because it would only take one person/business/country/society to decide otherwise for it to fall apart. It's not at all clear that it would be a good thing anyway. Some jobs will stay the same, some will change and others will disappear but there will also be new jobs.

The margin on warranties is way higher than on the product (at least with computers).

Your namesake was appointed to the position of 'performance pathway scrum coach' just over a year ago.

Right now I have Jack ahead mostly because of that excellent first 2 mins off the bench against Italy but there are enough holes in both their games that the pecking order is very far from settled.

A narrative had developed amongst some where they wouldn't criticize Prendergast directly but instead they would blame Faz for selecting him. I think that it was a bit toxic tbh but this is a logical extension of that. They've both had a topsy turvy 18 months.

What gets me is that he doesn't appear to have reflected on let alone learned from his mistakes. He appears to genuinely believe that the actions he took were both necessary and successful at repairing the economy.

I will be delighted if he proves wrong but I've never been convinced that Hume is quite a test level player. The ones to watch out for at 13 are the 2 Hugh's - Cooney and Gavin. Osborne might plug a gap but despite a big frame he doesn't have enough physical edge for centre for me (not yet anyway)

I came to say exactly this.

For 2 mins after he came on Jack marshalled the team around (his best ever sequence in a green shirt IMO) but then it faded away again. It could be argued that the issue is that neither 10 is Sexton but the reality is that the team is not getting into place quickly enough.

Most of his best moments this season have come when there has been another playmaker on the pitch (we're badly missing Hansen in this regard). I'd like to see him think ahead 2 or 3 phases instead of looking for the killer pass every time.

I missed this particular one so can't comment on it specifically but they did have to change the interpretation some time back because players were taking the proverbial a bit. I'd like to see it eased up a little but it might be harder than it looks to rewrite the law.

Can the Ireland front row afford to start with Ryan at tight head lock? Is the English scrum a bit weaker than normal?

14.02.2026 22:52 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

A tiny sample size but I thought that the scrum looked an awful lot better after Edogbo came on. For England I would have him in the 23, probably on the bench instead of Stockdale.

Any chsnce that one of the (currently) nuttier groups replaces the Tories and moderates itself to the centre right?

I'm talking about pan frying chicken here. About 3 mins at medium high with the lid on did it for me earlier today.

14.02.2026 20:24 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

I couldn't believe that he actually ate it!

14.02.2026 20:12 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

I knew someone who would fry chicken for 20 mins and then put it in the oven for 2 hrs. Absolutely refused to believe that it didn't need quite so much cooking.

BTW, if you slice it thinly and cover the pan 5 mins will overcook chicken.

He's well off his own standards at the moment. I have faith that he has another good run in him but we look very short on depth at 13.
