Do the ambitions of Yemen’s Houthis go beyond the region? Two decades ago, the Ansarullah movement—better known as the Houthis—was a rebel group in northwest Yemen, barely known outside their country, fighting a limited war against the central government in ...

My new article with Farea Almuslimi for Amwaj Media. The Houthis have consolidated power in Yemen & become a regional power in just a few years. It is increasingly clear that their ambitions go beyond the region and that they want to build a global footprint.

Ice obtains access to Israeli-made spyware that can hack phones and encrypted apps Trump administration contract with Paragon Solutions gives immigration agency access to one of the most powerful stealth cyberweapons US immigration agents will have access to one of the world’s most sophisticated hacking tools after a decision by the Trump administration to move ahead with a contract with Paragon Solutions, a company founded in Israel which makes spyware that can be used to hack into any mobile phone – including encrypted applications. The Department of Homeland Security first entered into a contract with Paragon, now owned by a US firm, in late 2024, under the Biden administration. But the $2m contract was put on hold pending a compliance review to make sure it adhered to an executive order that restricts the US government’s use of spyware, Wired reported at the time. I lead a top Israeli human rights group. Our country is committing genocide | Yuli Novak My generation was raised wondering how ordinary people could countenance an atrocity. In a grotesque twist, the question has circled back to us

«For Israelis of my generation, the word “genocide” was supposed to remain a nightmare from another planet. We asked: how could ordinary people go on with their lives while this happened?

In a grotesque twist of history, that question now circles back to us.»

Lorenz A. and Germany’s Deadly Pattern of Racist Policing The killing of Lorenz A. lays bare the reality of racist policing in Germany – and a media culture more practiced in echoing police narratives than challenging them.

I wrote about the police killing of Lorenz A. - a case that lays bare police impunity and the blind spots of German media. Subscribe to my Substack to read the full article.

Another reason being the lack of other other sources. The UN was present in the past and counted deaths caused by KSA strikes for e.g.

I still think you are making a good point. It’s my impression that in the past, media has never quoted any Yemeni health ministry to account for deaths. This could have a number of reasons, one of them being the media narrative around Hamas’ Health Ministry.

There are two Ministries of Health in Yemen, one is Houthi-run and the other is Government run. So it’s either Houthi-run ministry, or ministry in Houthi-held territory. But it certainly isn’t the Yemeni health ministry.

Art. 3 GG

‘Vicious cycle’: how far-right parties across Europe are cannibalising the centre right Hardline agendas, especially on immigration, are copied by mainstream conservatives in vain effort to win back votes - but it’s not working

Great piece by @jonhenley.bsky.social. I get to outline the vicious cycle of far right support. As mainstream parties move right on immigration, voters adjust their positions to the right, far-right support increases, mainstream parties move more to the right...
