Annoying how many in the party and punditocracy clearly pay no attention to politics. In 2024 Harris talked about policies to help Americans, Trump talked all the damn time about trans conspiracy nonsense. Trump kicked people out of the military based on identity. GOP campaigns on this stuff, Pete!

In most sports leagues the extent of scrutiny of partnerships is "Did the check clear?"

Too many people failed to recognize that separation of church and state existed for the protection of the church, and now the church is viewed as just one more instrument of politics

(Not that that wasn't so before, but now it's so overt and cynical)

Indeed. And when it does come into effect the GOP finds ways to take credit for it, showing up for ribbon cuttings for infrastructure funded by Biden, renaming some state-level ACA program with a different name that voters don't realize is part of the thing they disparage as Obummercare

GOP is always on offense, Dems always on defense. Dem leaders can't imagine caring enough about an issue to pass it by any means necessary. They tried that with ACA, then lost power, and the lesson they took was "Don't do things" rather than "Yes, we used power when we had it and got stuff done!"

I don't know what it'll take for Dem leaders to acknowledge that politics in the US fundamentally changed 15 years ago, when GOP found they could run and win on on conspiracist obstructionism, and could subsequently hold power through voter suppression

Huge win for Carlos - I think that he'll secure year-end #1 if he beats Musetti on Friday?

Who is the target audience for these posts? Whom do they think they're fooling? We know they know this is unpopular, that's why Schumer got exactly 8 people with near-nothing to lose to take the fall, but at least treat us with enough respect to just go silent for a while rather than bullshitting us

If you mean it then work on removing Schumer from leadership

Why is it that for the last decade I've been stuck being represented by the loseriest bunch of loser-ass losers in the history of losing?

Maybe related: Amex says they've had a lot of new signups for their Platinum card with its recent updates, which include a digital entertainment credit that has NYT on its list. So, NYT is clearly pulling out some stops to juice its numbers

Yeah, I'm not holding my breath for months of columns on The Republicans Must Move To The Center (but I could totally see Brooks writing how Both Sides must do so)

99% of people who are even aware of the issues Yglesias cites are hearing about them from people like Yglesias, and never from Democrats

You're lucky if the manufacturers of a laptop or phone gives you five years of security updates, and there is no way in hell that your internet-connected stove or fridge will still be getting security updates in 10, 15, 20+ years when you still want to be using it

Borderline personality disorder, narcissistic personality disorder, antisocial personality disorder all very much in play. Solid candidate for extremity on the Dark Triad scales - narcissism, machiavellianism, psychopathy (but psych scientists are more divided on if that's a meaningful construct)

Seeing self-identified "Christians" choose to keep food from children as a political bargaining tool reminds me of Neal Stephenson's Leviticans of Ameristan in his (otherwise quite bad) book "Fall: Or, Dodge in Hell"

Certainly wasn't my experience in the community college sector (but the Times doesn't consider that to be higher ed, nor any institution attended by people outside of their pundits' elite social circles)

This highlights the absurdity of the centrist-consultant "The Dems talk too much about LGBT issues" schtick. Trump is the one obsessed on these issues, and when he attacks then what? Is it the centrist position that Dems should just let this happen with no comment or opposition?

Juuuuuust a smidgen more!

We recently came close to buying a new house, but pulled our offer when the inspection used the phrase "poor condition" to describe both roof and siding - that'd have been a ton of cash to spend on things that would bring no joy

Labor had a brief stretch where leverage tipped in its direction and wages went up and an entitled ownership used to decades of disctating the terms of employment went absolutely bonkers
