Screenshot of a news update from the New York Times. Credited to Aishvarya Kavi, the update reads:

Lin said that the U.S. Institute for Peace caled the D.C. police on the Musk team members in an effort to stop them from trespassing because the institute has control of its own building and the land it sits on. But instead, the D.C. police allows them to enter and kicked oit the institute's officials.

"Before the D.C. police arrived, the Musk team had tried for hours to enter the building. They attempted to enter on Friday, but that effort was unsuccessful."

USIP is not an executive branch agency. The executive branch has no right to enter the premises or fire its personnel. For the FBI and D.C. police to do this is an act of illegal violence. This is the sort of lawless thuggery you see in dictatorships.

To women in the sciences and maths, to women in education and the humanities,

May we all admire and aspire to be such gentle giants as those who have raised us.

Hey, artists, in case you were wondering if your work matters: I'm a scientist working on climate change and biodiversity, and I would not be who I am today without The Lorax, The Secret of NIMH, Watership Down, The Last Unicorn, and The X-Files. I know I'm not alone. Thank you for all you do.

New York governor orders removal of Palestinian studies job posting at Cuny Hunter College faculty and staff union condemns Kathy Hochul’s order to take down listing, calling it ‘overreach of authority’

New York state says one can't even say the words "settler colonialism, genocide, human rights, apartheid" in regards to Israel, or else that is antisemitism. I'm sure all the advocates for free speech will agree with New York state, from Trump to Musk to Bezos and even quite a few liberals.

The researchers collected their first data in October 2023 and March 2024. Initially, they were struck by how inconsistently Google showed its warnings. A deep learning model they built to analyze the queries suggested that the warnings should have appeared between 29 and 58 times as often as they did in practice. For motivated conspiracy peddlers, they were easy to evade: just adding quotation marks or a single letter to a query was typically enough to make the banner disappear.

The researchers were beginning to collect additional data last September when they discovered something unexpected: Google had stopped showing low-quality banners entirely, weeks before early voting began, without disclosing it.

NEW: Google used to warn you when you were seeing low-quality search results. Then, in the weeks leading up to the 2024 election, the company quietly turned that warning off www.platformer.news/google-data-...

Her delivery = stone cold & tough as hell.

Whyyy is the US messing with Mexico on her watch?

(Rhetorical - don’t answer, it’s too depressing)

Also if you feel strongly about Eric Adams, you should call your city councilmember to express that and ask for their position.

You’d be surprised. Hochul’s stance is highly disappointing but it doesn’t come from nowhere. Press all your electeds. City elections are in 5 months. Ask candidates too.

SchoolHouse Rock - No More Kings
YouTube video by tennesseejed93 SchoolHouse Rock - No More Kings

If I had a band or a label, I would do a punk cover of "No More Kings" from Schoolhouse Rock. And then I would gather a bunch of people to write a whole album of next-generation Schoolhouse Rock songs, with songs about Social Security and Medicaid and NOAA. I am not kidding in the least.
